Classy album

Director Abhishek Kapoor has an ear for good music as evidenced in his last 2 movies Rock On and Kai Po Che which boasted of a few memorable tracks. With Fitoor, he promises to continue the same track record as he gets the maverick Amit Trivedi on board as the music director. Swanand Kirkire writes the lyrics for all the songs and the album promises to be a musical treat to the listeners.

No soundtrack is complete without Arijit Singh these days and the trend continues here too with the popular singer crooning Yeh Fitoor Mera. The subtle music transports one to a different era with Arijit suitably underplaying his voice to good effect. By keeping the arrangements simple, the composer sets the right mood for the song. Don’t expect the track to burn the charts, but this will find its way among the listeners’ hearts.

Rating: 3.5/5

Amit Trivedi puts on the singer’s hat for Pashmina which too has a subtle beginning with guitars and flutes. He has often been credited for bringing in a fresh wave in Hindi film music; one listen to this track and you would know why. He seldom puts his foot on the oft trodden path and this song is yet another example of his ingenious ways of music making. As with the first song, this one too sets up a relaxed mood with breezy instrumentation. Trivedi’s singing is apt for the composition and this is as classy as a song can get.

Rating: 4/5

Pakistani singer Zeb Bangash croons Haminastu, a folk song. This is an unconventional track that would find little takers among the masses, but Trivedi weaves magic here with a wonderful tune that just sticks to your head. Listen to the sensational Santoor piece towards the end that creates a flutter in the heart! Zeb’s singing is top rate and does full justice to the beautiful composition.

Rating: 4/5

Hone Do Batiyaan sees Nandini Srikar and Zeb Bangash handle the mike. More than the tune, it is a joy to listen to the vibrant musical instruments used in the song. This is a kind of track that would have suited a Coke Studio setting too. Special mention must be made of both the singers here who do a brilliant job and elevate the already exquisite composition. Trivedi stamps his class yet again with a fresh take on the music scene.

Rating: 4/5

Tere Liye is a trademark Trivedi song that sees him choosing Sunidhi Chauhan and Zubin Nautiyal to do the honours in the singing department. Music aficionados can get to hear Sunidhi Chauhan delivering the song in a lower octave that she seldom does in her other outings and the results are very impressive. Zubin closely emulates Amit Trivedi and one wonders why the composer himself did not sing this. Though not as excellent as the previous songs, this one holds its ground firmly.

Rating: 3.5/5

Sunidhi Chauhan returns with Rangaa Re and Amit Trivedi lends able support to her. The music has an international feel to it and would appeal the most to the younger listeners. Sunidhi’s rendition is top class and is a reminder of her flexible vocal prowess. While she impressed in the last song with a subdued performance, she absolutely stuns here with singing of high calibre. Trivedi’s range as a musician is highly commendable as he manages to deliver a good variety in this album.

Rating: 4/5

Rangaa Re has an English version too and rightly so, as the hindi version had an international setting to it that was pointed out earlier. Caralisa Monteiro replaces Sunidhi in this track, but one just feels that Caralisa’s rendition does not quite match up to Sunidhi’s rock star like voice. Amit Trivedi’s Hindi portions remain the same. To sum up, though it has the same music, the hindi version scored better.

Rating: 3/5

Amit Trivedi is the flag bearer of a new generation of music listeners who yearn for new sounds and experimentations and so far, he has not put a foot wrong. Fitoor is yet another feather on his cap as he delivers a few stunning tracks that are a testimony of his creative musical skills. There is an inherent classy feel in his compositions for Fitoor. Each of the six tracks carves their own distinct identities and holds the listeners’ attention. Though the album will not score high on the charts, it will sway a considerable amount of music lovers with its delectable tracks.

Album Rating: 3.5/5
