Whatever I may define the''First date'' as, the point remains that everytime u go out with the man of your dreams, its an important day!!! So each time,a time and date is decided to meet up, both the girl and the boy do everything in their power to look good, feel good, etc, etc. Whether its a new romance, a week old or an old old one, where the couple's been married for 25 years, a date is a date, and its special. Though with time the relationship matures, and so do the choices of going out and the definitions of spending time together, But a first date, the first time the two had walked hand in hand, and spoken to each other with that excitment and blush...that memory never fades.

We all must have heard so many ''first date experiences'', from people getting to realise that this was the biggest mistake of their lives to people getting married right after the first time they went out... it all happens. But what I share here is amongst the many memories my mom left with me, her first date experience.

One afternoon, after lunch, me and mom were into the usual chatter-chatter mood. So we started dicussing her marriage, and my obvious question was how did she know she had to marry papa? I had never thought about this earlier...for since I had come to this world, I had seen them together...:) So it never came to me that mama would have passed my age and had been single ever before. But now I was too curious to know it all... So here's what she told me...

My Mom's father(nana ji) happened to be the best friend of my Papa's father(Dada ji). So Mom and Dad knew each other from childhood. They were great friends with each other and used to hang around together as siblings, along with their other brothers and sisters. Until one day when my Dad was 27 and Mom was 26, it dawned upon dad's mind that the girl he was looking for all this time, was right here, in the house. So he got totally mesmerized by my Mom's beauty and made up his mind, that she was gonna be the girl in his life.

Way back in 1979, talking of a love marriage was a BIG taboo in our household, and on top of it, talking about a family relation like that would be crazy...So my dad made a plan of action, and decided he would ask my Mom first and then proceed, for he knew that later it might be difficult for her to say no if she wished to. So Dad and his best friend, went to Mom's working place, one afternoon and he casually asked her out for lunch. Completely clueless of anything, Mom naturally agreed for this was not the first time that they were going out.

So this was the first time my Dad had taken a girl out for a date...and Mom kept thinking, he was taking her to meet another girl. whom he liked and believed that she could help him in the affair.

They went to The Qutab Hotel (Delhi).... And there was My Dad and My Mom... (the begining of my existance if I can call it).... My Mom could still recollect the menu, my Dad ordered a ''club sandwitch''. And they kept sitting an talking bout usual stuff, when my dad came to the point, and finally asked her THE question...but in the worst way possible.... He said...since my family is looking for a bride for me, and urs is looking for a groom for u, I was just thinking, we could help them solve their problems, if we get married with each other!!!!!(a pretty bad line) And quite obviously, my Mom was set into laughter, for a long time she blieved he had completely lost his mind, but then when she saw Papa really serious... She asked him to talk to her father, for she was not the one to take such big dicissions...which ofcourse meant a yes for Dad...'coz she had not said a ''No'' atleast... He came back home and through an uncle, succeeded in conveying the idea to his parents and there... All the elders agreed and they were married within 6 months of their so called ''first date''!!!

Another part I recal is...when after the lunch on tht 'date', Papa had asked Mom if he could smoke....and Mom had said...if u wish to.....this has become a family joke, for each time now that mama askes papa not to smoke...he quickly replies...''I had asked for ur permission, and u said yes...that was for lifetime. :))

Its had been 24 years since then and My Mom and Dad had been married...and happily so.... until 3 years back, when my Mom left her body and went to the heavenly aboard...last night I was talking to dad about this event that mom had told me, and he laughed and said...''She's left with you all the treasure of memories she had, which'll help me live the rest of my life; Though i'll miss those regular 'dates' with her!!!

Hats off to this wonderfully wonderful couple, who brought my brother and me into this world, and gave us the best we could ask for. They symbolise the idol love and marriage, I have ever witnessed... though not physically together today, but can I miss the eternal binding between their souls. They are still so much in love with each other, and married for all lives to come!!!.... SUDHIR AND SHASHI...MY PAPA AND MAMA</ b>

May her soul rest in peace...
