After being mortgage-free for many years, I needed a re-mortgage of about £25000. My problem was that I was on a low pension, aged nearly 64, and mortgages can only go up to age 75.
I approached my own bank/building society first, and just fell short of their affordability criteria. The same result with various banks/building societies from MoneySupermarket.com and the Daily Mail best buys. I even tried HSBC who I used to work for, with lots of their own payroll data etc. to back up my sensible financial behavior, but no luck.
One of the loan companies who turned me down, put me through to First Choice Finance of High Lane, Stockport. They came up with TWO great mortgage offers - one for £25000, and one for just £15000, as originally that was all that I asked for. It is difficult to get mortgages below £25000.
Anyway, First Choice Finance were great, especially Joanne who dealt with me.
I have had a lot of bad service from big name banks, and wrong financial advice from specialists employed by them in various fields, so it was nice to deal with someone who knew their stuff and was nice to the customer!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
