What Space was to Stanley Kubrick's "Space Odyssey", The Ocean is to Disney Pixar's "Finding Nemo."

An infinitely drawn graphic universe, where objects, guilty as they are, find it a jolly good place to float, twirl and somersault on zero gravity. This movie takes us inside of the abyss, like how, Kubrick's opera took us outside of space.

The pioneer in animation paints it all immaculately in Nemo. The stones and the plants, the inner surface and the periphery, the creatures of the planet ocean. Every detail so vividly textured. Every cubicle poised to a nicety. Every vacuum adhering the laws of gravity. Even the water bubbles carry inner dimensions of its own.

Whereas the master technician of cinema gave us a meditative serenity in 2001's visuals; the gen next machine box paints its universe on a canvas while adding sound, color and vibrancy at the equivalence of an action theater!

What is common however is that both movies defy the common stereotypes of the universe they exist in.

That Space can entail claustrophobia and fear was ground breaker in 1968. And that Ocean can be a planet of enthusiasm and giddying fun even more so in the 21st century art!

This is pixar and this is how to redefine freedom of expression and creativity in the most sophisticated and civilized manner - "The creatures of the planet ocean are not monsters, they are just like ordinary people."

The talk, blabber, beguille. They dance like a two year old in a pram and cry and laugh like a two year old in a pram.

They have insecurities and anxities that of an 18 year old and they do encomoass genuine feelings of love, lust and human comfort, much like how the grown ups do.

The key metrics of a Pixar movie is obvious and the voice cast featuring - William Defoe, Albert Brooks and Ellen Degeneres augment things, much like the Graphical impact to the art design.

This ain't no gimmick. If 2001 was an understudy of mankind's folly with technology; Nemo caters to these so-called lifeless creatures, and their failure to comply with its own boundary rules and regulations.

The story is that of a father fish(Albert Brooks) trying to track down its son Nemo, after the little chap got exiled on the far end of the ocean.

Or was it out of the ocean? Doesn't matter.

Much of the spectacle emerges when the mother fish, accompanied by a ADD'd Jelly fish embark on a quest to track our lost fellow and they reach the mid ocean.

When both plunge on to a fast-treading ocean undercurrent and cling on to a rapture of tortoise -like kindergartens jumping up& down on a rollercoaster chair - you would be hardpressed not to roll your eyes and giggle, instinctively!

And the bit where a group of silver fishes rally-up to create a sign board to aid our lost chap, is another self-effacing pixar touch.

There's enough to like in the movie and nothing to dislike.

When I saw it all at the tender age of 14 ode back in 2005, I didn't necessarily realize the enormity of what Pixar had achieved with this film. For me back in the day, animation was all about a painted universe on a canvas with talkie animals replacing talkative humans.

Kids might enjoy it on a storytelling level but for grown ups, there's a mild provocation at the offing as well.

And now that its nearing a much deserved anneversary and still going strong; I've grown up in time too to realize it might as well last a centenary or more.

See it all over and over again and still it would look fresh. That's the incessant magic of Disney Pixar the studio. My rating? 5 on 5. Deserves nothing less than that.
