The best advice I can give to anyone looking for low cost airfare is to, Check out everything.and then do it yourself!

I tried looking for a low cost last fare to go visit my daughter in New Orleans and here are some of the prices I cam up with online.

Priceline.com  $415.00 round trip.

Orbitz.com      $229.00 round trip.

Travelocity.com$198.00 round trip.

Isn't it unbelievable?  What a spread in prices.

Then I called the airlines directly, and this is what I came up with:

Continental      $199.00 round trip.

Delta            $198.00 round trip.

American Airlines  $179.00 round trip.

Next I called some travel agencies:

First agency    $229.00 round trip.

Second agency    $228.00 round trip.

Third agency    $229.00 round trip.

I then checked the Sunday edition of our local newspaper to see if there were any specials  The specials went everywhere except where I had to go.

So, back to calling the airlines directly, until I came up with an unadvertised special from Continental.  Leave mid-week, stay at least one Saturday night(or more), agree to take a non direct flight(1 stop and a plane change in Atlanta, Ga.), make the reservation at least 2 weeks in advance and whooptee Doo! I got a round trip ticket for$167.50!

So my advice to you all is, Do it yourself!  Call the airlines, bus terminals and cruiselines.  Talk to someone there and tell them you are looking for'a deal'.  The people who work directly with those places know all the specials and deals available.

I once even got a cruise for 1/2 price by calling the cruiseline myself and agreeing to a'TBA' cabin.(Which is'To Be Assigned')  When you agree to this, you are assigned a cabin when you arrive for your vacation, not before.  You're always upgraded in these cases.  For the price of a double occupancy, inside(no window) cabin, we were given a suite!  This happens because of last minute cancellations and such.  Regular cost of the suite for that cruise.$1150.00.My cost$599.00!

So once agin, my advise, do it yourself!  I have found this is the only way to truly get the best of all deals.

*P.S. .Have a nice trip!
