''pehle se likha,

kuch bhi nahin,

roz naya kuch likhti hai.

jo bhi likha hai,

dil se jiya hai,

yeh lamha filhaal jee lene de.........''

Such beautiful lyrics, such soulful music and such a touching film. I recently happened to see this film and was taken aback to say the least. One has to see the film to believe its simplicity and brilliance. Even more surprised I was to find out that the director was on debut.

As I often say, when things happen right, they happen perfectly. Such a simple story, relatively inexperienced starcast save Tabu and yet such a wonderful film.

The film is about 2 friends Reva(Tabu) and Sia(Sushmita) and their friendship. No the tried and tested theme this time whenever 2 women are involved(they falling in love with the same man). Tabu is married to Sanjay Suri and after a year of wait and honest tries she finally gets pregnant but as fate would have had it, has a miscarriage only to find out that she cannot become a mother again. Here comes in friend Sia who announces that she will be the surrogate mother of the unlucky couple. And thus starts what we call life and its pleasures and pains in the simplest way.

We all get insecure aome time or the other in many of our relationships and that is what this story is all about. Tabu becomes restless and the initial joy dies down when she feels that she is being ignored by all and it is Sushmita who is being noticed by everyone. She is sullen because she feels though she will become a mother yet she will never be a complete woman, and that eats her inside.

What the couple goes through and what Sushmita goes trough is shown very aptly in the movie. The emotions shown are so real and very practical, nothing herioc nothing out of the world, so common yet so spectacular.

I read a few reviews on this topic and was very surprised to find out that people considered this movie to be crap and senseless and boring. But these very people will go all the way praising a movie like Forrest Gump and Schindlers List which also ventured on the same line--human nature. I am not comparing this movie with others nor am I ranking them, all I am trying to say is that why is it that we only praise a humane movie made in hollywood? Please give the devil its due.......

Comments and Brickbats awaited.

PS

I almost forgot to give credit to Anu Malik for such a melodious music(he really does surprise once in a while) and to Gulzar saab for those heart wrenching https://lyrics.

Kudos to them and to debutant director Meghna Gulzar for her mature handling of such a sensitive subject.
