Well i am from bhopal and had purchased fiat uno diesel s model in 1999 from premanchal motors. The reasons i had purchased this car were many, a high satisfaction of driving a fiat & premier padmini in those days & the fact that it was probably the best diesel car in the class at that time. A sound engine, a great drive and a old trusted brand.
Though i still feel that all other points & features still hold good and score over all diesel cars of its class any day....the only reason that the car failed was.....fiat is no longer trustworthy. They failed their customers miserably. Fiat as a company may have produced a gem but were not able to support & sustain their service network. Lack of availability of spares, trained technicians and many many other similar flaws led to the car & the company being relegated to a history chapter in indian auto industry. They still sell & service through tata...but sadly here also they have failed....
I deposited an advance amount with local tata dealer at bhopal, mechmen motors in feb 2010 for obtaining a new power steering rack for my car....sadly they returned the money yesterday to me after all attempts to procure the said spare failed. All it implies is unless fiat is able to support it's dealers & service centres with necessary spares...they will never have a successful car. I say the same for their new models also whether it is punto or anything else.
Excellent vehicle but unreliable & untrustworthy service support.
Moral of the story : buy any car but never a fiat. You will regret once your car has grown a few years and there are no spares available.
