Premier Padmini, or simply Fiat, for plainspeak has been with us only for the past six years, and it is our second car after an Amby (Mark 3) and over the period of time it has mellowed and made a very special palce in our lives.
For some inexplicable reason, I have always related this beauty of a car with the Doctor community, because the place where I grew up (Ranchi, erstwhile Jharkhand) whenever I saw it, there invariably used to be a small red cross on the wind shield. I will give a small account of my experience with it avoiding technical jargon which, to be frank, I am not very good at.
Contrary to what people say about it, I have always found it pretty comfortable. Much more comfortable that Maruti 800, especially if you are going for a long journey. Power steering is not there, but the ''play'' of the steering is quite good, if you know what I mean to say.
I fully agree with one of the reviewer when he said, ''changing gears can be fun if one gets used to it''. The boot is spacious. The engine sound. Its still a pleasure to drive this car in any evening on a highway. And as I said, it has a capability to mellow and make its own place as you use it over a period of time.
