I purchased my first Car - new Grande Punto on 25th Dec 2009 - Emotion Petrol variant. - 1.4L Fire, Nova White color. What a beautiful car, it has excellent looks, quite stylish and most important its the performance that matters. I drove about 2000 KM in 1st month. By the time I reached 2000 KM, I already started getting mileage of approx. 21 KM/L on highway (without AC), and approx 15-16 KM/L in City. I am very impressed with the performance.It needs a minimum of 2000 RPM Engine speed, before you can feel the thrust and power of the vehicle.Lot of people find it under power, but I guess it would have been below 2000 RPM. You allow the engine to reach 2000 RPM, and feel the difference.
Overall in comparison, the equivalent car in technical comparison is Swift DZire (except the difference of Boot), is completely similar. However DZire has a waiting for about 2 months (reason: It has a same Fiat Engine running in it, and Fiat has slowdown its supply to Maruti Suzuki, in order to promote Punto & Linea.The other car which might perform even little better than Punto is Maruti Ritz, however its very important for you to like the looks of it, unless you love a car, you cannot be passionate about it, and you will not be able to enjoy the drive yourself. So think before you go for Ritz.All in all, you get great looks, good interior space, largest boot space in its class (Space of 290 Ltrs) - Swift has 230 Ltrs of boot.
All in all, go for it. You will not regret for sure.
