I don't base my criticism on a single incident and hence after repeated occurrences of an unhappy service from FedEx, India I want to go all out in crying foul. I must tell you except the name sake they do not share anything in common with their international parents.
Being a logistics expert they lack the basic requirement of being able to track the products once handed over to them. The product was shipped between 2 large cities of India( Bangalore to Hyderabad). This along with their highhandedness, lack of proper customer service, outsourcing to 3rd rate local players, non existent industry best practices render them pale in comparison to the other top courier/mail companies.
I was to receive some very important documents from Printo, Bangalore who used FedEx Priority Overnight to deliver it to me. The packet was to be received by me the next day and that is where the saga started. It was delayed by 2 days, then it was informed it was already delivered, then they said it was wrongly delivered to someone, then again it was informed it will be delivered in a few hours. This saga of waiting, not knowing if the product is safe, thinking of backup, follow up with FedEx sapped my energy. Emails to their top honchos - MD, CEO and SVP elicited no response. Finally I had to do their internal management and got some good samaritans to trace it and get the product delivered to me after full 4 days of shipping it. What a service I must way.
I have used every possible player in the market from unbranded to branded and I must tell you even domestic small time players fare far better then FedEx. I am learning the dynamics of the game here in India and normally resort to digital means as my first option. If at all I have to ship important stuff, I lean on Blue Dart for local and UPS for international mails. Rest all are not reliable at all.
Watch out and play safe, if someone is trying FedEx play extra careful.
