First of all, sorry for breaking the Golden Rule at MS by not posting an All English Review (Second Time I am doing this). Hope you enjoy this as much as I did while writing…. Really took me down memory lanes. I have been “inspired” by the famous Jagjit Singh Gazal, as in my opinion, that’s the best piece of poetry available on childhood.
I have given a rough translation in English at the end.
Ye daulat bhi lelo, ye sohrat bhi lelo
Bhale chhin lo mujhse meri jawaani
Magar mujhko lauta do bachpan ka saawan
Woh kaagaz ki kasti woh bearish ka paani
Who kaagaz ki kasti woh bearish kaa paani

(I am translating just the 5 choices, which are more or less in a chronological order of how I read them.)
1.
Those interesting readings in Chandamama, which caught the story of ancient India…
Our civilization with pictures..
From mythology to society..
Even if I want to forget, its very difficult to forget….
These short stories during those long vacations…
2.
Reading Archies by hiding in the terrace…
Laughing a lot with Jughead…
The fights between Betty and Ronnie…
Reggie’s pranks and Diltons studies
The clumsyness of Archie..
How lovely are these memories….
3.
Long time back I had read the Arabian Nights
With Alibaba, Forty Thiefs, Alladin and his Giny
The kings and queens amongs the stars
The love stories of the prince nad the princes
And those lovely dreams of flying on a magic carpet…
4.
Then it was the turn of Enid Blyton
It may be Famous Five, Fatty, Larry or the Three Investigators
Mysteries thrilled my heart
So did the scary tales of the jungles and rivers
Those long stories in the short novels…..
5.
Then I read The Hardy Boys
Which was the last stage of childhood
Often admired the brilliance of Frank and Joe
Wondered how they solved mysteries so efficiently
I wished this to be my own story….
Somewhere here, the childhood passed and came youth…..
Thanks for reading… Pl leave your comments.
