Hi,
I was involved in computers from a long time and the Internet is almost like a second home to me now.
I have experimented with many email service providers, right from usa.net (which used to be one of the better providers) to cashette.com through yahoo, hotmail, gmail, rediffmail and so on.
I finally found Fastmail and over the past couple of years, I have grown to like it so much that I am now a paid member of the service, even though I don't require such a paid service. It is only my tribute to the great guys at Fastmail.
Why I like them:
Their site is fast and reliable. I have not had a single outage with them so far.
All actions are within easy reach, right from deleting messages, marking as read to reporting as spam.
It is the only reliable provider of POP and IMAP. I have been able to retrieve my mails from GMail into my fastmail account!
If I become a paid member, I can access email from my Outlook!
An enhanced membership which is around Rs. 2000 per year allows me to host my email on their domain. So I can have myname@myname.com, but the messages are stored at Fastmail.
I get a Notepad that I can use to jot notes etc so that I don't forget something.
I can upload files to a directory instead of attaching to a mail.
There are various skins that you can choose to customize the display.
The recent storage war triggered by GMail has however cast a shadow on this, since Fastmail provides only 10 MB of space for free accounts. I used this ''small'' space to handle 3 high-volume yahoo groups lists. Then I moved those lists to GMail and pulled them from GMail. Once I am through, I delete those from the fastmail account.
Overall, a much better service than the biggies put together.
Regards
Sridhar
