"Madhur Bhandarkar is the new age Hrishikesh Mukherjee"

  • Amitabh Bachchan quoted sometime back. I was a little awestruck if Amitabh has started being over lenient in his quotes which involves praising people. But then to justify it to at least 50% of the quotes is Madhur

has a past record of movie like "Page 3", "Corporate" and "Traffic Signal" and now in the row is "Fashion" which belongs to the league of High Budget movie. Fashion has been a much awaited movie of this year, reason being a Madhur's take on "Fashion Industry" and other reason

being the appeal to classes and masses. Classes who are waiting for another good cinema by Madhur, and masses who are waiting to see "Ditto" of some past not-so-good incidents ('

Censored

to be precise) on the ramps of Lakme Fashion Week, as Madhur claims he has been inspired from them.

Now music of such movie carries a baggage of higher expectations too, and whether it does any justice is just few lines away. What surprises me is the fact that now-a-days buying a DVD is not worth as you get only four original scores remixed into ten and that is what has happened with Fashion as well.

~~ Fashion Ka Jalwa~~

The Album opens with much expected high energy/beat number "Fashion Ka Jalwa" in typical electrifying guitar and a Rap "Give it to me Jalwa"

.Jismon ka hai yeh jalwa, Kismo ka hai yeh jalwa,

Nasha hi nasha yeh jalwa, maja hi maja yeh jalwa

Sandeep Nath tried his best to sum up the naked truth of fashion industry with his carefully chosen words. Right mix of English/Hindi lyrics, is well sung by our energy box "Sukhwinder Singh" accompanied by Satya Hinduja and Robert "Bob" Omulo in the background. It's not something you would love to croon rather after the first five hear you will be able to recollect it only in some discotheque or pub especially the remix version. Not to forget the seductress "aaaa aaaa"

in the background gives you quite a raise (Pun Intended).

Rating: Lyrics: 3/5, Music: 2.5/5, Vocals: 3/5 (with bonus .5 points for those lewd sighs)

Best time to play:Flipping through some Fashion Magazine, Wooing Metro-Sexual dudes and Zero- Figured lass.

Mood: You tell !!

~~ Mar Jawaan~~

Next in row is "Mar Jawaan" , which begins with keyboard and soon followed by soft drum beats and it gives way to soulful voice of Shruti Pathak which mesmerizes you completely. Adding to that is composition by Salim-Sulaiman and the enrapturing english lines sung by Salim Merchant which gives you a kick of passionate feelings.

geele geele sapno ka jaise khat hai,

hayee geele geeli chahat ki jaise latt hai

This is something which can be listened for hours; over a quite romantic evening or on a long drive and it makes you fall in love completely. Thankfully remix doesn't kill the song, just turns it to a

club mix number.

Rating: Lyrics: 4.5/5 , Music: 4/5, Vocals: 4.5/5 (Am I sure I have not overrated this score? – No!!)

Mood: Romantic (absolutely!)

Best time to play: With the Morning tea, In the blank Office hours, Sipping over the overheated coffee, When you are alone imagining yourself holding your beloved's hand

~~ Kuchh Khaas~~

You aren't out of the Mar Jawaan effect and reach the third number 'Kuchh Khaas' which adds on to the soothing effect and dips you deep down in feeling of love and romance. Song begins with keyboard and soft guitar strings and haunting voice of our very own "Mohit chauhan" accompanied by "Neha Basin". They don't disappoint you or your mood which is already set to kiss the beloved. Lyrics surely make you fall in love all over again –

Kehna hi kya mera dhakhal na koii,

Dil ko dikha dil ki shakal ka koi,

Dil se thi meri ek shart  ye aisi

lage jeet si mujhko yeh haar hai kaisi

Remix might give you a deja-vu but don't break your head you won't be able to recollect the closest possible is "Haan mujhe pyaar hai" – woh lamhe.

Rating: Lyrics-3/5, Music-2.5/5, Vocals-3/5

Mood:Romantic,

Best Time to Play: Remember, this is a romantic duet!!

~~Aashiyana~~

With Rock On bringing the concept of Soft rock, every composer is trying and Pritam steal --- err the show with Aashiyana the fourth track. Typical youth rock with hard drums throughout crooned again by Salim Merchant. It takes the cake as the best club number appropriate with the theme of fashion'. But somehow I like the remix version better and it has the capability to make you jump on the dance floor as soon as it starts. Lyrics are basically about the carefree youth, quite relevant to the theme as it's about young vibrant dudes and babes who are trying their luck in fashion industry.

Rating: Lyrics-3/5, Music-3/5, Singer-3.5/5

Mood: Party, Fun, Pub

Best Time to Play: Discotheque, Pubs, Driving

~~ Theme of Fashion ~~

Now the best ever expected should be the track which is meant to be used as a background score when the Models are shown doing their ramp walk. Yes!! It is so. The "Theme of  Fashion" though reminds me of music of some Sanjay Gupta's suspense thriller movie or it might remind you of your good old TV Serial "Tehkikaat" title score. You might get haunted by too many music instruments but the majority is of Santoor played along with drums, violin and rest you need to

concentrate to figure out. But it surely reminds me of Enigma series if not anything else.

Rating: Music - 3/5,

Mood - both in the relaxing mood and boosting up yourself

Best Time To Play - in the end of booze parties

Overall the album is a clear winner with the right mix of love songs and remixes. Romantic songs might catch up initially but remixes will be clear winner over a period of time. The USP of the album will be the fresh voices of singers, except few heard before. It gives the album an edge over other albums which have become stale with the same repeated overheard voices. Though Madhur's 'Page 3' did get success with respect to its music as well Fashion has a potential to break the

record.
