I love movies, the drama, the color, the dances, the songs. no one makes movies like bollywood and I am proud to be an indian. just wanted to pour my heart about some of the movies released this year. some good, some really bad. its not a full list, just the ones I have seen and have something to say something about.:)
i loved iqbal, good performances, great storyline, good message. nagesh kukonoors films have always been good and he does it in his own quiet way. I tink thats a cool way of making movies, no nakras, no hungama. just have a good story, good actors and shoot!
being cyrus was really too hyped, I only liked the storyline and saifs and simones performances. it was short, sweet and twisted (just how I like them). I do think dimples and nassurudin's performances were below par.
i wanted to run out of the theatres during the showing of aksar and 36 chinatown. I relished the twist in the end for aksar. but the rest of the movie was so bad and uditi shouldnt be doin closeups with such garish makeup. its a thriller not a horror movie.
the songs and akshaye khanna made the chinatown movie bearable. shahid was adorable and upen patel shd be wearing less clothes rather than the stupid casanova ''lets go for a long drive'' tag.annoying!
i personally loved gangster, great storyline, great performances. the newcomer, kangna is natural, composed and cool. shiny is the strong silent type, he talks with his face and his eyes and that is probarly the sign of a great actor. emraan was this suprisingly twisted lover in murder but he has been repeating that in almost every movie so far. he is looking bad and fat. he needs a change and fast! he isnt bad actor, he is just stuck in a rut of the same old role and does he need to kiss every actress he acts with? we get it, he is a good kisser but move on darling!yawn! and dun u tink the mahesh bhatt banner is making great movies of late? almost all of them have decent storylines and great music. zeher and gangster are good examples. made cheaply but they do well.
family wasnt as bad as the critics made it out to be. humko deewana kargaya was just a nightmare, it had everything in it. great actors, great sets, great songs but it just fell short. there was no story and no linkage. all gloss and no soul. katrina looked heavenly thou and proved to be a good actress. am I the only one but doesnt bipasha looks the same in every movie?
benaras had good reviews but the story was weird. urmilla as usual gave a great performance. she is personally such a fabulous actress (kaun, ek hasina thi, jungle, pyar tune kya kiya, need I say more?) ashmit patel as soham was a letdown, he is just too wooden, maybe he didnt get into his character. his eyes were blank, no emotion, no love, no nothing.
ankahee is a good movie that will go unnoticed. good performances by aftab and amisha. I find esha deol really scary looking, weird face, weird body and her dialogue delivery is just too weird.scary.
amisha is a revelation in traditonal outfits thou, she looks like a million bucks in saris and suits. but she has a long way in becoming a great actress thou. but her scene with esha behind the door in ankahee was fabulous, where she is pleading with esha. she has that potential in her.
rang de basanti was a huge gamble I guess. it could have been a huge flop but thankfully it's a huge hit. interesting storyline, I loved the merging of the past and present and making it relevant in modern times. every young indian should watch this movie. the emsemble cast was a relevation, the spontaniety and cool factor of the cast made this a casting hit!
i am not a huge fan of brainless comedies, I am sorry, I just need to make sense of everything, and if the film doesnt make sense, I start thinking and thinking isnt good in brainless movies. so there :) no reviews on pyare mohan, tom, dick and harry and the rest of them whose names I dun even noe.
ok now coming to fanaa, I went into the cinema with not high expectations cos I didnt want to be letdown. but when it started, I melted, the chemistry between kajol and aamir is mindblowing to say the least. the shayari, the locales in delhi, the mischief in aamir's eyes, the innocent values of kajol just hit too close to home. it reminded me of me(this is another long story to be told) BUT when the second half started, I sighed in pain and frustration. the script was shit! the lead pair can only do so much when the script lets them down totally. kunal kohli shd stick to romance and not try anything else. his romantic bits are fabulous, there is warmth, there is a meaning and the small details which make every love story memorable, are evident. tabu is wasted, I dun find her an excellent actress thou, she is alright but critics love her, I wonder y? lara dutta and shiny are utterly wasted in dumb roles. my gawd!fanaa will definately be a huge hit but greater films have flopped. and kajol darling, u must come back to movies. u were born to do this! and dun kill me kajol fans, but I was thinking how the movie would have turned out if juhi had done her role?both fantastic actresses and excellent chemistry with aamir. I wonder and wish some director will bring these two legends together again. how I wish....
the second half of the year promises some really cool movies I am looking forward to.
krish looks excellent. hrithik always gives his 100% to his every role and this shd be no exception. and most of the shooting is done in mera apna, SINGAPORE so that shd be a treat for the world. priyanka as always shd surprise us as usual.
kabhie alvida na kehna shd be a great divali popcorn rhona dhona kinda karan johar movie. great starcast too, the typical starcast thou. abhishek should be the suprise packet. and there is don too which is on its way. shd be great for shahrukh fans and amitabh fans who are just waiting to tear srk to shreds for desecrating big b's epic.
salaam e ishq looks mindblowing. and yes its cos of juhi who is in there. she always makes the role and most part of her movies, her own! love to see the pairing of john and vidya too. and perizaan zoraiban is in it too, love her energy. one thing that nikhil advani said when making this movie is that he wants to bring out something new in every one of his actors for that movie. so I am waiting to see wat he brings out of juhi's performance and role. cant wait. heard its based on the hollywood movie, love actually starring hugh grant.
and there is onir's next, bas ek pal with a great emsemble cast sanjay suri, urmila, jimmy shergill, rehaan engineer and juhi. its based on 5 frens whose lives are changed after one incident. the look of the film is unique cos every actor is color coded. jimmy is more white, juhi turqoise, rehaan grey, sanjay black and urmilla red. interesting!
and there is dhoom 2, vivaah, babul, munna bhai(my kids go crazy over the first movie, the world comes to a standstill :)) lots of potential, lots of color and lots of drama is awaiting us for the rest of the year. I cant wait :)
