FANAA

First of all I would like to clarify certain misconceptions. FANAA is not a story of a "Terrorist". Its not a story of misplaced patriotism or a cliched love story of a terrorist. If you go looking for these things in FANAA then you will certainly be dissappointed since there isnt much action of the hero in the terrorists role either in the first half or in the second. The story is above these and has to be seen for the sheer chemistry and emotional tension between the 2 ideologically different protagonists.

The first half

Road romeo vs the blind girl

A complete clash of ideologies and attitudes each gets attracted to the other, one for timepass and the other for comfort. The emotional disaster clock starts ticking from the word go and you cannot but sympathise with the hopelessness of the situation.

What lifts the film is the interaction between the two in couplets. This brings a smile despite the underlying sadness of this strange relationship. And believe me songs dont mar the narration but act as a bridge in aiding the disasater relationship to blossom.

Second Half

Stranger vs the widow

This part is pure treat to viewers. An injured stranger with a violent past and bleak future not wanting to acknowledge the widow as his wife.

A family in a remote place leading a quiet and seemingly boring life gets jostled with the arrival of a stranger. While he recognises them they grope in the dark. The story cleverly uses the kid to bring life to the "dead man" and prick his conscience with a surprising and indeed clever analogy to Dravid, the dependable. From here starts ticking another emotional bomb between the 2 protagonists that hurtles to blow out of proportions. Each scene is carefully enacted and superbly executed that you cannot but marvel at the sheer tension between the two leads both pre and post recognition.

The film runs totally on a higher level with anologies galore. You need to have a "Mind" to understand it.

Waste track

The Tabu track is a waste. Though I agree that it was there to cater to the masses this track only jars and mars the otherwise good storyline. This track in the second half is what confuses the viewers and misleads them to look forward to the regular high adrenaline action packed "hunting down the terrorist" kind of movies. Since they dont find the expected action the viewers endup dissappointed. And Tabu as usual is plastic faced with any scene and situation.

This film comes with perfect casting. I cant think of any other actress who could have essayed Kajol's role except of course the retired Madhuri Dixit. As for Aamir Khan Iam too small a person to even shower praises.

Kudos Kunal for giving us a wonderful film. Of the 3 that hes directed this one's "The Best". The first one was a dud and the second clicked because of Saif. But FANAA rocks because of Kunal.
