Fanaa falls flat on its face, I didn’t expect a classic but I didn’t even expect a film that is soo lifeless,dull and drab.
Not only the story and screenplay fail, but also the unispiring direction, dialogues and below average performances mar the film.
The first half is as bland as it gets with all that stale shayris which we have already heard and read on SMS’es. I felt like I am attending Mehfil-e-Mushaira . but the frst half ends with a bang and u expect things to pick up in the second Half, its better than the first half but nothing to rave about, it drags drags and drags.and the climax which shud have been the high point of the film is a complete downer.
Aamir Khan was just about okay . His act of a teenage flirt gets on ones nerves after a point of time. He was irritating in the first half and in the second half that dull dirty look didn’t work much, but his performance was better. On the whole aamir disappoints once again after that dry act in RDB. Actually RDB’s DJ sounds better now.
Kajol , she is sincere but her role is soo foolishly coined that, one wonders what made her accept a characer like Zooni. Its silly, dumb and forced.
Rishi kapoor gets one of the worst roles of his career and he does it with élan .His death scene is one of the unintentional comic scenes of the film. Kirron kher bores .Tabu is nice . sharat saxena is good. Vrajesh hirjee and his imitating salman, rajesh khanna and Sunny was in bad taste. All the girls who played kajol’s friends were as stupid and idiotic as the film itself. Shiny ahuja and Lara Dutta disappear before u recognize them. The kid is cute but gets irritating as the film proceeds. The terrorist leader nanaji was unintentionally funny and even his death scene was hilarious.
Story and screenplay by bathija is of the type Disasters are made of. It just doesnt have a flow and looks forced most of the times. The scenes are repititive and tests the patience of the viewers. The romance which is the base of the film is soo dry that it will make u yawn. Here is absolutely no feel and charisma. And the Zero Chemistry between The lead pair makes things worse. People feel its easy to make romances work but Fanaa proves for the 99557348534th time that it’s the most difficult genre to attempt and succeed after comedy. To make the audiences involve in the story,Characters and romance is a Herculean task. Very Few films get the nuances right. And Fanaa definitely doesn’t do that. Aamir looks uncomfortable doing romance and the spark is missing between the Lead pair.
Kunal Kohli chooses the wrong script and pays for it. Even his dialogues are repititve and yawntastic.The way the romance develops is forced and childish. theres no proper reason for both of them to fall for each other. After that great interval block I thought aamir's character's graph will be amazing and we will getto see him playing a real cold blooded terrorist.But his character stagnates the minute he reaches Zooni's house. The director actor tried to show the human aspect of the terrorist and thats where he failed miserably. He just cudnt gel the love story and the terrorism angle.Toh story na Idhar ki rahi na udhar ki.
Music is just average but the picturisation of the songs is worst. Esp “Des rangila”, it was really bad. ''Chand sifarish'' is the onlygood song but even it doesnt leave any impact.Cinematography is absolutely breath taking and Ravi Chandran is the Real Hero of Fanaa if not for his brilliant camera Work, Fanaa would have been Unbearable.
Editing is loose, but may be even he was confused on what to cut and what to keep because evry scene is equally pathetic. Agar permission hoti toh
woh shayad poori ki poori film hi cut Kar deta.
Background music is good and elevates the proceedings to some extent.
On the Whole Fanaa after a great star will sink at the box office , its Inevitable.
