One lousy morning in college and all of us friends decided on bunking it for something fun worthy. In a mini voteout between the jungle book and Fan, Fan prevailed and unwillingly I signed myself in to it, volunteerily.Unfortunately! Fun(expectations after bunking the boring classes) was miles away from what I got after watching this mixed run ins of duals from SRK.

Plot-The film is based slightly on the ideology of the 1996, not so hit thriller, directed by Tony Scott starring Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes, where in the fan, De Niro is super obsessed over his baseball idol. Similarly, Gaurav Chanda, as the fan in this movie is a little over the top when it comes to his idol, Aryan Khanna. The story revolves around the life of Gaurav Chanda(played by SRK himself) who runs a small cyber cafe in the town and does everything a super crazy fan  would do for his idol. So much so at times it looks a little idiotic.but then let's not forget there are people who do that.Well, Apparently! So he wins this award in a colony function impersonating his idol Aryan Khanna(SRK)and wants to give it to him on his birthday by personally visiting him. So down he goes to Mumbai to meet his idol and does the same things like travelling WT and staying in the hotel lodge Delight, Room no. 5, and so on and so forth. And in this brief stay in Mumbai he happens to bash a newbie, Sid Kapoor, in the film industry for speaking ill about his idol. Though the news run in the stories of Sid Kapoor apologizing to Aryan Khanna surfaces, the detective staff which is supposed to be Aryan's managerial team(played by Sayani Gupta) jumps with a youtube video to prove Chanda's involvement in this case. Shocked by this SRK then fakes a meetup with Chanda saying he wants to thank him and tips off the police. The police then get their hands on this crazy fan and bash him up. On getting knowledge of this Gaurav Chanda is pissed and wants an apology from Aryan, which obviously he doesn't get. Well this concludes the first half of the film where in the whole time I was looking at my watch and regretting what I got myself into.

Expecting the second half would do good to my bad mood I watch on.

The second half resumes with Chanda running havoc in Aryan khanna's personal life and ruining his career by impersonating him and running around the streets doing madness. Now there's a faceoff between the fan and the idol and it gets ugly and continues to make the movie ugly for the second half long. The movie ends with Gaurav Chanda commiting suicide after a dragged fight sequence between Aryan Khanna and him.

Thankfully for me it was time to now get the hell away from the theatres as soon as I can to get some fresh air coz I had no idea what I just watched!

Cast- With debutant Waluscha de Souza, the goan model, playing SRK's wife and Sayani Gupta as head of Aryan Khanna's managerial team, both are pretty good and do the roles with ease. Also the newcomer Shriya Pilgaonkar who plays as Gaurav's one sided love interest outshines. But it's SRK all the way. Even though I found the movie dull, it was a pretty good performance form SRK switching roles between playing the fan and the idol with aplomb and ease, at times leaving you wondering whether they are 2 different people playing the 2 roles.

Script- The story isn't a direct copy of the english classic "the fan"  but takes inspiration from it.Unlike "Rab ne bana di jodi" where Anushka can't figure out(minus the moustache) if it's her husband or no which is pretty dumb. There are instances in the film SRK's brilliance leaves the audience wondering between Chanda and Khanna. The fight scenes are a drag. The times where Gaurav's parents are clueless about what their only son is upto roaming abroad and spoiling lives is a little too hard to grasp. The story kind of lacks a weightage and lags in various aspects.

Direction-Maneesh Sharma has done a pretty decent job in directing the 2 different SRK's and kudos to him for that. But then.I wish I had seen a little different from what traditional Bollywood offers.

Songs- There is only one song "Jabra fan " which was used to promote this film but it does'nt feature any where in the film.

Final take- All and all if you are a SRK fan, and by fan I mean if you walk, talk, drink, eat or even sh*t SRK.It's your thing.  Well for me, I realized the worth of a Rs.240/- after watching this .Too little too late.
