Pleasantly surprising. Review on Family - Ties of Blood

I started watching this film not knowing what to expect but I dare say I was pleasantly surprised. I was captured by the richness of the plot and the wonderful acting. This film revealed a depth of plot that can’t be seen in more recent films. The film is about family and things we do for them and how they affect our lives. This film is very interesting although with a tendency to drag in some places and quite a few useless scenes.

The film is about Akshay Kumar (shekar) a poor chef who has a happy go lucky attitude towards life and loves his family very much, he finally meets the girl he wants to marry after turning down several arranged marriages and they get married. Shekar is a person who can do anything for his family

In this film too there is Amitabh Bachan (virin sahi) an underground Don who is wanted by cops, government and other Dons but has always been able to escape. He is separated from his family because of his shady deals but his son his also in the organization with him. He decides to go to India after a failed attempt to take he and his son’s life so as to kill those responsible. Virin was also a person who was ready to do anything for his family.

Shekar’s brother Aryan who was very irresponsible and playful, he had a quarrel with their father and he stormed out of the house. Shekar who came back after the incident went out to look for him. Aryan came back after a few days only to discover that Shekar was dead, he felt he was to blame as Shekar had only been married two days.

On further inquiries he discovers that it was while virin was trying to kill his foes that his brother tried to save peoples lives and was killed. With the help of a few friends they start a campaign to make virin sorry for what he had done.

They proceed to kidnap all his family members and request his life in exchange. What follows is a lot of chase and run but virin was cornered and forced to surrender but the corrupt police released him. Due to the death of his wife and his daughter lambasting him he decides to change his ways and surrender. On hearing that his father had surrendered his son joins hands with the enemy and orders his fathers death. When virin hears this he is shattered, his daughter had lambasted him earlier on, his wife was dead and now his own son was ordering a hit on him, he died inside the family he had always lived for had turned their backs on him. He ends up killing his own son but Aryan spares his life because he would suffer more alive than dead.

One of the things I like about this film is the plot twist. Akshay Kumar is like one of the stars of the movie and no one expected him to die quarter of the way through this was definitely surprising. Something else I like is the way humor is used to introduce the movie it helps to balance the seriousness of the movie in later parts. The songs in the film are quite interesting. As usual Amitabh gave a sizzling performance and Akshay kumar too in the times he appeared. Although the film was a little shaky it provides good entertainment if you are not too choosy
