Well, I being a big B fan, didn't wait for any reviews to watch this one and for the first time in my life I regret having done that. Big B is 63 years old but I didn't expect that everything about Family would also be age old. The story, screenplay and even production values, everything was outdated.
2005 was possibly the best year for big B. He has had solid hits and has performed brilliantly in most of the movies. But his performance in Family is probably the worst in his career. I felt he was groping in the dark, not knowing what else he can do. The confusion was evident in several scenes.
Akshay and the scenes he was involved in were the only saving grace of the film. All the scenes where he just indicates that he is the best person for Bhumika while she is looking elsewhere but doesn't utter a word (just talks in his mind) were all laugh worthy.
The new hero, Aryaman, cannot be really faulted at because the impact of his role was lost in a lousy screenplay. There was not an indication that he would be the angry young man subsequently and when he actually becomes that, only his drooping eyes show up.
All in all a disappointing affair. I have a strong feeling that RKS is hardly involved in this one. The only place where you feel he is involved is in the song sequences. They appear exactly where they should not appear and that resembles with what happened in Khakee and picturisation style also is similar.
