So your product could be lying unnoticed in the store for 6 months then polished and dispatched. Or let’s say the store owner used a wireless printer for kids home-work and then spilled coffee on it, dried it for 20 days and then shipped it off. Or your LCD TV got drenched in rain, was opened switched on ‘checked’ and then shipped.
Now these may be extreme examples but the point is unlike the quality conscious Apples and IBMs of the world these companies do not have processes that cater to quality checks at the last point. So the multiple complaints.
