SCORPIONS TO STING THEMSELVES???. Review on Eye II Eye - Scorpions

It is said that the 80ies have been the golden era of hard rock and heavy metal.Looks like it is ''unfortunately'' true when the situation of the artists or groups of rock and metal are examined and as a result the poor musical quality observed.

Scorpions with their recent original album have entirely proved this notion to be true as well...Remembering their previous albums like ''Love At First Sting'',''Lovedrive'' and ''Savage Amusement'' their last album ''Eye To Eye'' leads us into a dark disappointment about the group's performance.Here are my opinions about one of the ''worst and weakest'' albums of the group...

The album,raised in 1999,consists of 14 songs which makes us think that the group is still in the best stage of producing new tunes while many other artists have problems about this issue;however this scenery is deceptive I am afraid cause almost all of the album is filled with junk material.

The most positive point is the ballads which still keep their wonderful tunes just like the other lovely Scorps albums.There are 5 slow songs involved and they are the only details that make this album survive,at least a little...

I think the best of them is ''A Moment In A Million Years'' with it's spectacular melody structure and the fascinating and sad https://lyrics.The whole song is dominated with a piano and is played exactly great!!Synths,violins and vocals accompany the piano with creating a superb profound atmosphere.And the lyrics:''A moment in a million years is all i've got for u;a moment in a million years to make some dreams come true;A moment that I wont forget until the day I die;a moment in amillion years called life''...Just close your eyes and leave your body floating through the enchanting tune...

The other ballads are of good quality too.''Obsession'' is a classical Scorps ballad offering the known wonderful taste of the group's previous slows.''10 Light Years Away'' and ''Eye To Eye'' are somewhat different from the classical sound.The first one is a acoustic guitar song with lacking the harsh tones of the electronic guitars.''Eye To Eye'' is also a soft tune with somewhat resembling to Dire Straits songs;especially the solo guitar used in the song makes u think so...''What U Give U Get Back'' is another ballad with no superiority to the others;relatively ordinary but not boring...

If I turn the other side of the coin we see a complete disappointment I am afraid.None of the rhytmic songs offer u a good sound quality;they are completely zero over 10!One interesting point about this negative affair is the group uses pop patterns too much while somewhat abandoning the rock motives.The track ''To Be No.1'' is only a pop song with nothing about rock;it has nothing to be listened but deserves to be played only in a disco!Well of course hard rock is the more melodical and soft form of heavy metal but is it necessary to exaggarate the pop sound this much??The melody and rhytm quality is exactly ''crashed'' in the songs ''Freshly Squeezed'',''Du Bist So Schmutzig'' and ''Yellow Butterfly''.Im afraid there isnt any rhytmic song that I can even somewhat recommend;they are all junk!!

I am really sorry that I cant really mention good things about this album as a final note.If you want to visit the old,ill and kneeled down grandfather of rock who was once the magnificient star that rocked the whole world,do it...However I think this album is a waste of money and tiredness of the ear!If u are a Scorps fan keep it in your collection but dont bother taking it out from your drawer to listen...
