Tragic Experience with Evok (Cochin)

About two years back I had bought a 3 piece sofa set with one 3 seater, one 2 seater and one 1 seater. I'm still using it as I feel the pain to throw it after spending so much.


When I bought the sofa the sales guy told me it's genuine leather in body touching areas. I know why leather is and knew it wasn't. So I asked him are you sure. He went and asked someone else and came and confirmed it is. Since this guy confirmed, I believed it even though in my knowledge it was not leather. When the main complaint l happened I raised it as an issue, the customer care told me it is not genuine leather.


Within the first month of purchase, the underneath cloth of the sofa started to fall off as if it was corroded. Immediately we called up Evok Cochin and told the issue. They told me they don't have a support in Cochin in-house but have a known person to come and inspect the sofa and do the needful and gave me his number. I spoke to this guy and he agreed to come on a day.


We waited and he didn't turn up. Tried calling him and no answer. He never picked our call after that. When the main complaint happened, I spoke to Evok Cochin and shared our concern on after sales support, Evok told me they never give an outside person's number but organize it themselves through complaint logging.


Within 6 months, the material started to get holes and peel off. Because of bad experience from Cochin Evok on first complaint, I though of raising this time a com ain't through Evok website. They had a web form for complaints. I filled it and submitted the form, the page crashed.


Tried at least 5-6 times and it never worked. Then I somehow got their customer service email and wrote the defect of the product. Received no response.


Then after few months we went to Evok Cochin and spoke to the customer care. They checked my invoice and told me the one year warranty just got over and so they can't do anything for us. I explained the whole incident to them but they never tried to help. I've attached two photos for all of you to see the condition of the sofa today.


I then brought a local upholstery guy who repairs such sofas and  asked him to take a look. He said it can be repaired but it would cost about Rs.45, 000. That's more than 50% of the MRP if this sofa. He explained  me the problem. The wood used is waste wood.


The art leather used is of poor quality or defective. To get the shape or good looks, the material is stapled to the wood. There are staples between woods. So you need to remove the staples to remove the material from between the wood pieces. Because wood pieces do not have screws, not sure if there will be any damages to the wood when they remove.


That will cost additional to this 45 k if there is any damage. When he explained this to me, he also showed me all of these and it was true.


So in effect I got a set of waste from a good brand.


We spent so much amount on this sofa thinking Evok is an Indian brand and that too of Hindware so any damages we would get support. For this amount we could have got beautiful reclining sofas imported from Malaysia which may be of much better quality.


Or I could have put another 20k more and got Rose wood sofa which would have lasted for generations.


Never buy expensive items from Evok Cochin. You maybe disappointed and lose your savings.
