A school to me is a place where the kids spend most of their time learning multiple aspects, which determine their success in future.
The syllabus is nowadays quite heavy and is highly demanding for the kids. What I learnt in 4th Std is what is taught in 1st standard. A 3rd language for me started in 5th standard where as my daughter started learning it in Upper KG!
It is thus important to ensure that they do not feel the burden and enjoy the process of learning as much as possible.
My transfer to Chennai needed me to find a good school in North Chennai vicinity and we shortlisted Velammal and Everwin. My daughter cleared her interviews at both the schools and we decided to go for Everwin. https://everwinschool.com/
Reasons:
1. A conversation with the authorities and few teachers gave me the confidence that my daughter will receive the needed attention. A well educated Patron\MD is heading the institution.
2. Infrastructure & Syllabus - The facility had smart classrooms with video projection for visual aided learning. The school had a decent sized ground, labs and library too.
3. The proximity to my home(2.5kms away vs. 9kms to Velammal)
4. Middle-class friendly. This is a critical factor. To me, my daughter studying with kids from middle-class background will help her relate better with them and will ensure that she does not lose focus from studies due to influence of other worldly stuff. I have seen many in my family suffering from resultant issues of an expensive educational background.
6. Economical Fee structure: The fees were relatively equal or a bit lesser in comparison with most other schools offering similar facilities.
5. Air-conditioned class rooms: The CBSE classrooms in Everwin are completely air-conditioned. My daughter found it quite comfortable as she moved from Bangalore where the climate is cooler, esp. during summer.
After my daughter completed her first year in Everwin Vidyashram, here is my impression.
Pros:
Teachers provide good attention towards their students.
Regular feedback from Teaching staff to Parents via scorecards+ in-person feedback
Receptive academicians to suggestions or feedback(I've provided few, which they understood and considered in my daughter's coaching)
Parents get to see the improvements in their kids' studies, by referring to the feedback\scores they've received from the school+ attending the interaction sessions set up every quarter to talk to the teachers.
Cons:
- Some teachers still have some improvement areas w.r.t scolding kids in regional language using coarse\vernacular words or phrases etc.(I agree that to be the case with many schools.) P.S: I formed this opinion after talking to my daughter regularly.
Note: A lot of other features which I missed to mention were deliberate, as I found those to be offered across all schools in private sector - Transport facility, sports etc
Have not had a chance to personally interact with the Alumni network of the school.
