The Esthell hotel [esthell.com] is well located at the junction of Besant Avenue and Mallar Hospital roundabout. It is about 20min drive from the airport and a good place to stay for any one having work at the Sardar Patel area, Guindy, Alwarpet, Mylapore, Adyar areas, and the IT district.
The Theosophical Society with its extensive woodlands and the Elliotts Beach are very close by, as well as the famous Velankanni shrine and Ashtalakshmi temple. Plenty of shopping on the Sardar Patel Rd. The famous Grand Sweets of Madras, and Ambika Appallam Depot are 5min drive away. Adyar Ananda Bhavan and Nandhinee are also very close by for excellent pure veg tiffins and good coffee.
We booked on the phone directly with the hotel, and were surprisingly not asked to secure our booking with a credit card. Check in was fast and our room was spacious, clean, well furnished and very comfortable with good AC and ample hot water. Breakfast buffet is included in the room rate, mostly south Indian tiffin varieties, tasty, but the coffee could be of better quality. A speciality sea food restaurant is on the terrace. We did not go there but did try the local prawns seafood at the coffee shop which was most delicious and reasonably priced for a hotel of this kind.
We also used the laundry services. The roller press for the sarees was very good but trouser pressing was not up to the mark. Room service also takes a bit of time. Other than this, I have to say that all the staff are extremely courteous and smiling.
Price wise, this hotel compares with the New Woodlands at RadhakrishnaSalai near Royapettah, however Woodlands rooms are larger for the sameprice; but if your work is in the South of the river areas, Esthell isa much better location. I would definitely stay there again.
