I bought this Epson CX5500 due to its competitive pricing. Print and Scan quality is excellent forhome use and it even comes with a 3 yrs onsite warranty. There is even a toll free service number and the service turnaround times are short. usually(within 24 hours).
Never encountered any problem with the printer so far. Except once when I got a faulty cartridge which was not detected by the printer. The technician gave a service report and the retailer straightway replaced the cartridge over the counter.
The ownly drawbacks lies in the ink consumption
A significant amount of ink is wasted in the charging process whenver the printer is turned on. So if you are not a heavy user of this printer and is likely to use this printer occasionally, you will end up only with some 20-30 pages per low ink cartridge. Rest of the ink will be wasted for recharging.
The promised 180pages per cartridge(low capacity cartridge) can be achieved if you print all the 180 pages in a single stretch.
Even if you wanted to print only in black, the printer will force you to buy the color cartridges if they are empty. Otherwise it will not print. So if your regular printouts are all in black, you will unnecessarily end up buying all the 3 color cartridges and the ink in them will be wasted during the printer intialisation process, even if you print only in black!
A black cartridge only mode of the printer is a much desired feature. But with most printer manufactures using the "sell printers cheap and reap money from chip basedcartridges"- business model, quite unsure whether Epson will follow this path
