Discs In Bombay. Review on Enigma, Andheri, Mumbai

The greater the entry charge – the better is the crowd and the fuller the place is! Its an irony to go the place where the entry charge is sky ridden and people are ready to pay as compared to the places where the ambiance is better and the music is charming. Enigma - a disc at J.W. Marriotttttt….. you enter the place and you find yourself in a restaurant – an inconspicuously unacceptable environment when you are in a party mood, but you look at the crowd and again we talk about ‘quality’ as we ‘party goers’ suggest. A disc should be centred on and around music and unfortunately greater significance is attached to the prices. Note: Do not misunderstand the entry charge with the cover charge – people do associate a higher level of cover charge with the entry charge they have to pay . . ‘All aren’t fools in all respects’ . .

The entrance of the name Fire N Ice marked it all. You hear the party animals: ‘It couldn’t be anywhere else but Fire tonight’. In fact, I duly submit all the credit to the rapid growth of entertainment in the Pheonix Mills compound to ‘Fire N Ice’. But, we find not much change even after a variety of discs in town catching pace and giving a hard time to old places of night entertainment. I would say:Athenas is one place where the music is good and the place could be called appealing, though small. ‘Velocity’ is a good place but its amazing why people prefer paying such a high entry charge, the music being absolutely horrible. I believe that people should be drawn by low entry charges or even by a ‘booze on the house day’ meaning very cheap drinks perhaps on any one day of the week to pull the crowd on a weekday, but it isn’t the case. If such a situation arises, I find myself saying (forget about the world) ‘the crowd’s not gonna be good – just chuck that place’. Being honest, even I am a crowd driven person when it comes to discs in Mumbai, but I am music lover too. At times, we really face a dilemma whether to abide by the crowd (paying higher) or to spend some good time at the place where the music we find is good, is soothing to us!

Following are a few places where I suppose people should not mind going: ‘Athenas’ – Wednesdays and Fridays – nice music and a beautiful crowd, ‘Fire N Ice’ – Wednesdays and Saturdays, Thursdays if you like Hip-Hop and do not miss out the ‘Chandni Bar Night’ if you love Hindi songs (twice a month at Fire), ‘Velocity’ – never, ‘Circus Circus’ – come out new and well made (the concept I think would not do well in the long-run, though a sure one time experience), ‘Enigma’ – once in six months – Saturdays, ‘Insomnia’ (Beyond 1900’s) – nice music – once in a while, ‘Rasna’ – Only member entry but one of the best music . . . . . . . . . . . Chill Out!
