A touching story; Marks comeback for Sridevi well

A heart endearing tale of how an Indian housewife(Shashi, played by Sridevi) lacking knowledge in English language is belittled and laughed upon by her own family.

Her daughter seethes in anger when Shashi accompanies her to the PTA meeting and shouts at her when her scrapbook goes missing! The entire family goes into a state of shock when Shashi stuns them with a five minute long English speech congratulating the wedding couple at the end of the film.

Clearly, appreciations in the highest order to director Gauri Shinde for handling such a delicate track with such ease and care. Gauri Shinde has taken her protagonist as the typical Indian housewife who lives in every Indian household. The mummy who cleans, cooks, does laundry and shopping and essentially lives to satisfy the needs of every member in her family without asking for a little bit of recognition. The stark truth that this mother - despite doing everything else so well - doesn't speak good English is essayed well through Sridevi's role. Shashi's tears when her daughter goads at her, the touch of resignation when her husband tells others that she was born to make laddoos - Waah, Sridevi hits a sixer in every ball thrown at her! When Shashi tells Radha that she isn't looking for love but only some respect, Gauri brings out the essential substance that every sincere wife/ mother yearns for from her family. The cameo role that Ajith takes in this movie is warm and definitely makes the audience wish for such a flight companion during their trips.:)

It's an irony that to understand the critical English plays on unassuming housewives, one must understand English to watch it on the big screens!:-D In all, I would rate this movie as a must-see and my verdict - 4.5 out of 5. Please do watch the movie, everyone.
