Story:

The reason behind pen this review is truly because of this wonderful novel which left a deep feeling in my soul, and still humming inside. Please don’t expect another humorous story telling, it’s serious one with composition of emotions and tragedy with a few tiny patches of smile. Obviously, it has the typical RK Narayanan signature in the way the characters takes you though the entire journey and describes the objects in the way you would like to listen.

It’s not about an English teacher, it about a very sensitive human being who loves and believes whoever or whatever he loves. It is written in a autobiographical style of the main English Teacher, about his different episode of life and with introductions of other interesting characters like doctor, Headmaster, Friend and Prof Brown (guest appearance but impressive, …. The way he understands Krishnan feelings). It says how one plans, dreams and how it become meaningless when things come to an end. It also talks about the strength and belief of a person who has nothing to loose.

It narrates about a simple, self stylish, ordinary living man Krishnan (The English teacher, sorry lecturer) life which lives with small dreams and limited expectations. It says how much he loves his family and care. This story revolves around a very soft spoken, kind hearted and sensitive lead character (similar to other lead characters in RKN novels), typical orthodox village ladies, one eccentric character in a typical village environment. The lead character narrates his story (Krishnan) about his different phases of life. All the charters are very natural and you can believe them. I have used this word believe because this story is all about believe and faith. It will make you cry, laugh and you may slowly start admire the characters.  You may describe Krishnan a very impractical man who is too much emotional, but I am sure you can find yourself inside him. You can also find how much a person get affected when his closest or dearest one leaves him….quote form the book” Nothing will make him worry or interested hereafter”.  How he became indifferent to the other materialistic things when he had lost his most precious belonging. How a person starts believing the supernatural thins and slowly gets involved into it. It will drive you crazy and you will turn on the pages quickly to see what happen next. But please there is a parallel story line develops when another one is near to climax and again the author brings you to the mainstream (another RKN signature). You will also find how Krishnan starts believing the existence of his departed wife and how others believe him or respects his simple ideology. You can see how a non greedy person (not greedy on life) Krishnan will earn respects from his fellows as well as from the readers.

Please read it once, it will definitely touch you.

Expecting a rating from you. I value it.
