It is a sad fact that snoring is one of the most common conditions that disrupts the lives of millions of people worldwide. While some snorers are blissfully unaware of the disruption they are causing to their partners on a nightly basis or they may be in denial of the situation, the reality is that there is a good chance that left unchecked, it will detrimentally impact the couple's relationship. It may start with lack of sleep for the partner and then move to separate sleeping arrangements, which can lead to tension, arguments and resentment within the relationship.
A QUARTER of couples admit they sleep in separate beds because one partner has an “unbearable” habit such as snoring. The latter causes three quarters of us sleepless nights. Those who do share a bed lose out on an average of 70 minutes sleep a night.
So what is this trend doing to the level of intimacy within these relationships? Well, that same survey found that 60% of respondents said they would make love more often if they or their partner stopped snoring! Taking it to the extreme, the study found that a significant number of heavy snorers had reduced sexual drive with over 50% of them also experiencing erectile dysfunction.
