For those of you who wondered if Saphira would ever find a mate who wasn't warped or evil, this book might jusssssssst answer your question.........and then again, maybe not.

The second book in the Inheritance trilogy takes off right from where the first ended, and for people like me who read them one after the other, it is a relief.

You know Christopher Paolini has matured and grown, just from his writing, which if possible is even better than the first.

Unlike some other authors who have written books in a series, this young man does not waste time nor space in explaining or giving a morphed review of things that have taken place in the first book, so it helps if you have read Eragon beforehand.

Eldest continues with Eragon's journey from boy to manhood, but you will not realise the choice of title until the last few chapters ( and it is definitely worth waiting for!)

''Infinity or long life...........many choices for you to make.........great battles..some of them fought for your sake.......There is a doom upon you- part of it in a death......The rest awaits you in a great journey..............An epic romance... strong enough to outlast empires...She is of noble birth and heritage..............but betrayal is clear. And it will come from within your family''

We get to know a lot of new people in this book and understand why some of the others did what they did in the first.

It takes off with the appointment of a new leader for the Varden- Nasuada, goes on with Eragon's visit to the dwarves, his training with the elves, and rounds up with a great battle where Eragon comes face to face with another Rider, someone who matches him in strength and wisdom.

Angela( the witch)'s prophecy starts being fulfilled, and you watch as Eragon learns to control his fiery temper, learns to battle in spite of great pain, learns more of the ancient language, learns more about dragons, learns more about his past and heritage.

This book answers some questions and poses new ones in their stead.

We are privy to some of Arya's secrets and her mysterious past,

We are enlightened about Brom's life and the legacy he leaves behind,

We can only follow wide eyed, Roran's progress from a simple unassuming farm boy to a leader of men, and cheer madly as he confronts his destiny head on,

We are introduced to Orik, a dwarf, with whom you will fall madly in love with!(at least I did).

The battle at the end of the book, showcases Eragon as a mature, strong leader of many races, a diplomat who is able to keep them together under one flag and fight for one cause, a human being who can bend ( but he does not break!) when the load he is carrying becomes too much for him to bear, and most of all, he comes across as an honest, good friend, someone you want on your side!

So folks if you enjoyed the First book in the Inheritance trilogy, go ahead read this one, it will not be a waste of either your time or money.

On the downside IT WILL MAKE YOU TOO IMPATIENT FOR THE THIRD BOOK TO COME OUT!!!!!
