Ego group of restaurants in New Friends Colony Market (South-Delhi) are owned and run by the famous Modi family. Mrs.Bina Modi wife of Mr. K K Modi personally manages these restaurants more as a hobby than as a business because Modis dont need restaurants to earn money.
Quality of food can only be ensured when the owners not only visit their restaurants but also have food themselves and also take their friends and associates.I am told that the Modis do eat at Ego-Desi( being are pure vegetarians.)
It started with a Bar-cum-Pub which I never visited since it is meant for the younger hep crowd, then came the Thai restaurant which is quite well known and respected for Thai food. I have had food here, but I cant comment much since I am no great fan of Thai food.
Then started a Cafe more on continental style and it is a nice place to have a quick bite and a drink or two.
The latest one is Ego-Desi, which is a pure vegetarian joint serving authentic Rajasthani- Marwari food.
Wow! what food! Each and every dish is a delicacy.
For those brought up on spicy, oily Mughlai or Punjabi food, it comes as a surprise that exquisite dishes can be made without using Onions & Garlic and that too vegetarian!
All the famous Marwari dishes are available...Kair Sangar subzi ( my favorite), Gatte ki subzi, Kachoris, Bada Kanjee, Bikaneri paratha, Hara mater parantha and other wide varieties of Rotis including Missi, Bajra,
The food is a feast to the palate. As the saying goes '' Peth bhar gaya, Dil nahin bhara'', your stomach may get full, but your palate wants more and more.
It can seat 50 people, nice ambience, Homely atmosphere, good service, Mukesh the
Manager with a smile and suggestions makes it a worthwhile experience.
Strongly recommended to all food lovers. Prices are reasonable too. The system of platters and Thalis is a very welcome step which does not weigh heavy on your purse.
