Tame your poopies! (and that nasty tummy ache too!
Sep 25, 2001 06:52 AM 10630 Views

Imodium A-D first hit the medicine shelves a few years ago and was ready to give Pepto and Jell-O a run for their money!  You know what I am talking about.  How many of you have had your mom tell you to take the Pepto or drink the Jell-O water to stop the poopies!  I know I have many times.

Along with the poopies you almost always have a really bad stomach ache as well.  Imodium A-D also calms your stomach cramps from diarrhea.

Imodium A-D in the liquid(which is what I bought) works the fastest.  This is VERY important when you are in the middle doing something whether it is shopping, walking or sitting!

The directions are very easy to follow.  Imodium comes with a very handy little plastic-measuring cup that is about 2 inches.  The dosage lines are marked and are raised as well.  I have painted the little lines on our cup with red fingernail polish so they are easier to see especially at night when it seems Imodium is needed most!

Dosage directions are as follows:

Children 12 years older and Adults take 4 teaspoonfuls(which is one dosage cup) at the first sing of a bowel movement and 2 teaspoons after each subsequent bowel movement but no more than 8 teaspoonfuls a day for no more than 2 days.

Children 9-11 with a weight between 60-95 pounds take 2 teaspoonfuls(half the dosage cup) also after the first bowel movement and 1 teaspoon there after for each loose bowel movement.  Do not give more than 6 teaspoonfuls a day and for no longer that 2 days.

Children 6-8 with a weight between 40 and 59 pounds take 2 teaspoonfuls(half the dosage cup) also after the first bowel movement and 1 teaspoon there after for each loose bowel movement.  Do not give more than 4 teaspoonfuls a day and for no longer that 2 days.

Special note: For children under 6 years of age and up to 47 pounds please call your doctor.  This medicine is not intended for use in children under 6 years of age.

As with other medicines please keep them out of the reach of children.  Only give medicine under adult supervision.  If your diarrhea is acute or is accompanied by blood or mucus in the stool, please get to the doctor or hospital.  If you also have a fever over 101 get to the doctor as soon as possible.  If you have a rash or a reaction to Loperamide HCI DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE!

As with any medicine please consult your doctor or pharmacist BEFORE taking this medicine since it may react with other meds you are taking.  Always be safe.

Imodium also comes in tablet form.  This is especially helpful in your purse since the liquid may leak out of the bottle.  It is very syrupy and turns almost to sugar as it dries out.  It is also hard to get out of ht bottom of your purse.

It is recommended to store the liquid between 68 and 77 degrees F.  I put mine in the frig.  It seems to taste better(if that is possible) and does not leave a lingering taste in my mouth.  This medicine is put in a  dark brown bottle to keep light out and it also needs to be kept in a dark place away from heat.

Please be sure to check the expiration date on the front of the bottle or the back label.  I recommend checking your medicines when you change time Day Light Savings.  This gives you Spring to get ready for summer heat and winter to get ready for cold and flu season.
