Shankar is a name to reckon with.He may not be the best story teller, but he sure knows which story is to be told.he has backed some of the most unconventional stories and from his stable comes'EERAM'. It takes a steady mind to tell a story of the thriller genre and must say that tamil industry does not explore this very often. This effort definitely needs to be lauded.Kudos MR. Arivazhagan.!
eeram is a taut thriller with a love story at its heart. Vasudevan(Aathi a la'MIRUGAM" fame) loves Ramya(Sindhu Menon). But due to circumstances, do not unite and ramya is married off to Balakrishnan(Nanda). Suddenly there is murder. whodunit? Vasudevan is appointed as the investigating officer and bizarre things continue to happen.
Aathi is brilliant and looks handsome(after mirugham, he needed a makeover). He plays the role of a police officer/lover with ease.Hope to see more of him. Sindhu Menon has expressive eyes.(reminds me of someone). Nanda is very good as Bala. The complexities of his character has been played subtly without going overboard.supporting cast is more than functional and everyone pitches in an earnest effort.
Technically, the film is one of a kind in our part of the world.The wet ambience, suitable lighting and classy photography and sfx are just some of the features of this technically slick flick. The music by thaman is refreshing and gels well with the ambience. the song'mazhaye mazhaye' is easy to the ears. The background score deserves a mention. the haunting orchestra does a good job but it looks like they seem to be inspired by'THE OMEN'.
On the downside, the movie is a tad too long. The story telling is more suited to urban class. The chronology of the movie is very interesting.
Direction, screenplay - an almost flawless screenplay. brilliant first attempt by arivazhagan the chronology of the story is very well handled by the debutant. And I hope we see more thrillers in time to come. Wet . not damp!
