Literacy-education-intellect????. Review on Education as Business

All over the world, Kerala, a small state in southern corner of India claims of almost hundred percent literacy. They call it GOD'S OWN COUNTRY and for people who see the state on TV or in cinema that is indeed a beautiful place. But once you go to this Gods' own country and spend couple of months there, for sure, any one who believes in God will say that they prefer to be away from Gods' own country. It is said that education eradicates poverty. Is this true?

If so why Kerala is one of the poorest places in India in spite of having high literacy? Yes, you have spotted the difference. Literacy not necessarily means education. Literacy means only one knows the letters and numbers, may be they can connect the letters together to understand or MISUNDERSTAND the words and meanings and [most likely they will not make any mistake as far as figures are concerned] Recently it was said that of all the places in India, Kerala is the only state where the state property is still destroyed every now and then for anything and everything.... and state transport buses being the most important target. Interestingly, virtually no political party is exception to this rule. It is said that it is the one upmanship.

Indeed it is a sad state of affairs. And does any one bother about this? Does any one look deeply into the problems and see what are all the solutions could be? It is indeed doubtful as the solution seekers are all BIASED. Meaning, they all have their personal interest in the forefront and when that is the case, how can one look for a good solution?

What is the objective of the education?

The Objective of Education is to make a human being to learn how to lead a good life. This is to guide him in making his intellect work. And for the intellect to work knowledge is very important. But a knowledge where one is made firmly to believe in something and asked not to further dwell upon, then that knowledge becomes very dangerous as that causes friction and heat. From our very young age itself, we need to be told of real goal of life.... but does any one knows that?

One is likely to reply...a doctor, an engineer, etc...But that is because, we forget a doctor or engineer or advocate or anything is only part of life and that is likely to keep one busy for a maximum time of 50% of a day...that is the maximum. So one has to still live for the other 50% time. That time includes eating, sleeping, meeting friends, family, etc. {even as a doctor, almost similar activities like meeting people, talking to them, helping them medically, psychologically etc is there}. And in every one of our activities, we interact with people and the interaction causes assessment. Only one does not know if what one assesses about the other is right or wrong until the time tells us.

But then the knowledge and intellect help one to make fewer mistakes. This means that mistakes still happens.... yes...why? Because, when we interact, we assess or understand the matters in certain time and space.... in simple terms, we consider certain factors in our assessment...there could be more factors which were not very relevant when we were assessing, but became relevant in hardly any time...means soon after. This is why they say, that there are many things in our life over which we have no controls...as a matter of fact, the things we might have control are likely to be far less than 30 percent. Wonders how did one come to this conclusion? Our life is made of three parts -Past, present and future.

Out of these three parts, [assuming equally spaced] we have no control on the past...and the present also gives us no choice. Why present gives no choice? Because in 'Present ' one is already there and by the time one decides to have a choice, it becomes 'past'. Now the only choice one is left with is to decide on future and here also for sure there is going to be great limitations... But Education gives a person to understand the situation and using the intellect and understanding the limitations, guides to either go for the best available solution or makes the person accept the solution available now without causing severe stress and psychological strain which helps the person in leading a better life.

What is happening today is that most of us are obsesses with the word and its definitions. We are caught up in the web of meaningless meanings instead of understanding the meaning and further enquiring about it. The moment one gets a degree or PG or PhD, one thinks one knows everything and one becomes directly or mentally arrogant and aggressive and then leaves the search and research resulting in loss of direction.

This indeed is a boring subject to discuss and so it is felt we better leave this at this point to see if there is even a single soul which has had the patience to read it!!!! Pros : there is no end to education Cons: Obsession / getting caught in meaning less duels
