I have recently shifted from Delhi to Chennai and I was looking for good restaurants for eating-out. After reading great reviews about EDEN in Mouthshut, I decided eagerly to give it a try. So me and my husband went to the Besant Nagar eatery for dinner a few days back.

It was a weekday night and as we were early so we easily found a table for 2. Now for me, ambience of the restaurant is also very important and in this regard, Eden was nothing to speak of! Its a small place with lots of tables adding to the clutter...no music..and as the restaurant gets quite crowded so a lot noisy!

We ordered Cream of Tomato soup along with a pasta for starters. I had read great things about the Italian there..and was having high expectations. To their credit, the service was quick but the food was average. Tomato soup was tasteless without the tang of tomato. The pasta...was not bad..but not out of the world either. And lets say...I have had better italian in much-less hyped joints! Though the portions were good for 2 people...

For main course we ordered North Indian - Malai kofta and butter naan. The malai kofta was too heavy with loads of oil..! We had to actually separate the oil from the top...the gravy was very average...again a bit bland without any specific flavour. The naans were as usual. Plus, they did not give any green chutney/ pickle/ vinegar onions that's always complimentary along with north indian food! Not to mention, the restaurant got fairly crowded and it wasn't easy to talk among the really loud chatter all around us!

The prices...well they aren't certainly cheap...I mean I don't mind spending on good food but the experience - ambience, decor, food all should be worth it. The following were the prices of individual items:

Tomato Soup - Rs 70 ( Definitely not worth it)

Pasta - Rs 160 (Very average)

Malai Kofta - Rs 100 (Reasonable price but quality wasnt that great)

Naan (25-30..don't remember exactly)

The major letdown was the ambience...food was very average...But had the ambience been good I would have still give it a thumbs up..but why would one go to eat average food in a very noisy restaurant with no sophistication whatsoever! Certainly not recommended if you are going for a romantic evening with your partner or even a quiet evening with friends.

I am really surprised at the great reveiws given by other people in this forum...and its the first time I do not agree with the popular rating.

Maybe, coming from Delhi where we have a host of multicuisine restaurants with a variety of themes and some great ambience...I was expecting more..

Anyways..I have heard about a lot many other multicuisine joints in Chennai...which my friends have said are really great...will try those soon and will post my reveiws... :)

Till then..

Adios
