I have been a part of eBay, the US one, since 2000 or so. I am more of a buyer than a seller but there are some occasions where I would sell something to get rid of some stuff and make small pocket money. Sometimes if you are lucky, you can snag great deals on anything. I have purchased books, CDs, mp3 player accessories, electronics, etc.
There are a few times when I have been had by sellers. Like one time one seller swindled me by misrepresenting a software as something else. Since it was a paltry sum, I didn't seek recourse. But there was one seller who flat out did not shipped them item II won. II tried contacting him several times but he did not respond to my e-mails or calls. I had to escalated it with eBay and thankfully I was refunded in full.
I always pay attention to the sellers ratings because that plays a big role in my whether I would purchase something from that person or not. As a seller, in the past it was great. The fees was reasonable and the seller can leave negative feedback on the buyer if the buyer did not pay. Now all of that has changed. They jacked the fees and remove the sellers options of leaving a negetative feedback. Those moves pretty much killed my motivation to sell something on eBay.
If they wanna raise fees, fine I can deal but removing sellers options to leave negative feedback to buyers to those who really deserve it is just bad business move. Granted both parties can abuse that options, but rescinding that option to one party creates a lopsided effect. To me, this greatly increases the opportunity for the bad sellers to take advantage of the honest sellers and drives more of the honest sellers away from eBay. Not much recourse for the sellers IMO. Hence I took away stars for this review. As of late I don't frequent eBay as much as I used to.
