What is https://ebay.co.uk?

Well Ebay is a bit of everything. You can buy and sell all sorts of products here. Mostly items are second hand but not always. But the main thing about this site is that its an auction site. So who ever bids the most wins the item they have placed a bid on.

What can I buy and sell?

Like I said all sorts of items are listed on this site. Theres a few main categorys such as Computers, cars, clothing, collectables etc. Under each of these categorys are thousands of items. For example under computers you will find games, joy pads, scanners, printers etc.

How do I sell an item?

Firstly you have to sign up to ebay. Its the usual deatils like where you live etc and you also have to give them credit card deatils. If you want I think you can give them your bank deatils instead of your credit card ones. After all this you simply pick which category best fits your item. For example if its a game for the Dream Cast you would pick computers. Then you would pick console and then pick games (sounds a bit complicated but you will realise what I mean). Then you have to place a title for your bid, a message descripeing your item, postage charge, your starting charge etc. After all this your item will be listed.

How do I place a bid?

Again you have to sign up before you can bid. After this you are ready to start bidding. When you have won an item the seller will 9 times out of 10 charge you for postage and packing. You have to watch this as some people will rip you off for the postage charge.

Are there charges to join?

No its free to join ebay. Its also free to bid on items and win them. However if you place an item you will have to pay. Theres a starting price you have to pay depending on your items starting price. Theres various prices to pay e.g £0.01 - £4.99 costs 15p and £30.00 and up costs £1.25. There are other prices for amounts inbetween. After you item is sold they will also charge a percentage of the money you made. Up to £15 is 5.25%, £15.01 - £600.00 is 2.75% and £600.01 and over is 1.50%. Another thing you may get charged is that if you have a reserve price on an item. So its 30p for items £0.01 - £14.99, 60p for items £15.00 and £119.99 and £1.20 for items £120.00 and up.

Can I buy instead of bidding?

Yes ebay isnt just an auction site. Some people may decide to sell an item rather than auction it. So if you see a sign saying buy now beside a particular item just click on it and you buy it.

When do I receive my item ive won?

As soon as the auction is over and you have won the auction the seller will email you. This will include his address and how much he wants you to pay including the postage. After you have sent the payment away the seller should send you item straight away after payment is cashed. Although if you dont hear anything by two weeks email the seller asking where your item(s) are.

Overall ebay is a great way of selling things and also buying. You can usually get a great deal if your keen on buying. Also make a bit of extra cash seeling your items. Bad point about selling is the charges you pay ebay. Bad point buying is the postage charges people will charge. For example I buy lots of nes games. Ive been charged different postage charges. The smallest amount ive paid for an item was 40p postage and the most is £1.50. Ive seen other people chargeing £3 per item but thats just ripping people off. Apart from these two things a great site and a great way of selling and buying too.
