Easy Taking Loans - Repaying it, My Goodness!

I will tell you a particular scenario in this film called ‘EMI’ - A husband played by Ashish Chaudhary takes out loans for near enough everything he does, whether its going on a honeymoon or buying a car or buying a laptop - obviously the situation tells us that he spends more than what he earns. His concerned wife, played by Neha Uberoi, is angry with her husband for getting too much into debt and not even working hard enough to try to repay it, so she works extra hard.

Now a newly married couple, one year into their marriage, are supposed to have a sexual relationship but when the wife is too busy at work and then comes home, has to cook too because lazy husband wont do that,  then there’s a problem - by the end of the night, obviously she’s tired and THAT part of this marriage isn’t going great guns. So, the sexual frustration of the husband is shown in this film - it’s shown by the husband, who is taking out his frustration by watching porno dvd’s and covering his manhood with a pillow while watching them.

What turns out is hilarious but that is not the reason that I’ve just typed this particular segment of the film - the reason that I’ve typed it is because this is a natural circumstance of life. If we hear about this particular incident in our day to day life, we’ll start laughing but if we go through it, it may not be as funny!

EMI turns out to be a wonderful feel good film with a great message and bags of great comic moments. The film basically is about a particular no nonsense bailiff agency who get assigned by a bank to recover default loans. The owner of this bailiff agency named Sattar Bhai, will now recover the money in his own cunning yet witty style!

I have enjoyed watched Arjun Rampal twice in a row now - ‘Rock On’ & ‘EMI’ - improving all the time, playing a role that should be easy for him, a care free party animal who sponsors all this enjoyment by credit cards and loans. Kulbhushan Kharbanda is also great as the father struggling with his good-for-nothing son. Malaika Arora Khan is average and just in the film for two songs and a few dialogues. Ashish Chaudhary is good, Neha Uberoi seems to be a natural actor and seems she’ll have a good future in Bollywood. Urmila is also good but then again Urmila being a good actor she is, that shouldn’t really be a surprise! Supporting cast is also very good, especially Sattar Bhai’s right hand men - a bunch of crazy individuals!

The music is so-so, the pacing is correct - doesn’t bore, brilliantly shot in India, right length - all the little little aspects of film making are great to make a nice, good, time pass movie.

As for the star of the show - that is Sattar Bhai aka Sanjay Dutt, yes I am a fan of baba but honestly he is really good in this. He’s played these kind of roles before so it should be easy but every time he comes on screen as Sattar bhai, he brings a specific aura to the film, added to that is his brilliant comic timing. Watch out for the scene where he meets Arjun Rampal in the club till the scene where Sanjay Dutt and Urmila start dancing to a song, around 20 minutes, it’s filled by brilliant acting by baba and uproariously funny one liners. This film is a must for Sanjay Dutt fans or for those who consider Sanjay Dutt a good actor.

Director Saurabh Kabra knows how to direct a film and more importantly take out good performances from his actors - that should get him work in Bollywood for the future.

A nice film which can be seen in any medium and can be enjoyed, forget what Pseudo Intellectual critics of India say, judge for yourself.

I’ll leave you with a my favourite dialogue of the film,

Bank Manager - “Loan aap pyar se bhi vasool karr sakte hai”; Sattar Bhai (Sanjay Dutt) - “Pyar se? Pyar se toh bacche paidaa hote hai!”
