I watched this movie with a lot of preconceived opinions.People who had already seen this film told me it had no story line, was boring etc, etc………But my reaction after watching Dus is “Hello!!!Are we talking about the same film?”

Dus revolves around the ATC(Anti Terrorist Cell) and its officers. The department receives a tip that a heinous crime of unbelievable magnitude is going to take place on May 10th and they only have a week to prevent this disaster. The only clue they have is the name of the master criminal behind all this – Jambwal. However there is no mention of him in their records and that makes him nearly impossible to nab.The head of ATC Siddhant (Sanjay Dutt) and his team of dedicated officers Shashank(incidentally his younger brother),Aditya and Aditi(Abhishek Bachchan,Zayed Khan,Shilpa Shetty) are prepared to go to any lengths to arrest Jambwal and destroy his reign of terror.Shashank and Aditya are sent to Canada because that is where the crime is assumed to take place.Over there they are joined by their colleague Neha(Esha Deol) who was in charge of keeping track of Jambwal and his activities for the past eight years. They also find an ally in Canadian cop Danish(Suneil Shetty) who agrees to assist them in their efforts. Together they manage to catch one of Jambwal’s associates Himmat Mehndi(Pankaj Kapur) who by virtue of coercion and threats and fear of imminent death helps them find out about Jambwal’s whereabouts. Finally they find him and succeed in finishing him off.Smug and complacent in their victory, they are flabbergasted when Siddhant arrives in Canada with the news that Jambwal is still alive and what’s more the same Himmat with whom they were cavorting around was in fact,Jambwal. They only have a few hours to avert his master plan which is to massacre the Indian Prime Minister along with 20-25,000 people who have gathered to felicitate him at the McMahon stadium in Canada. In the nick of time, they chance upon the bombs intended to blow up the stadium sky high but unfortunately there is not enough time to defuse them. The bombs, therefore have to be disposed off in such a place so as to cause the least possible damage to human life.Aditya manages to dispose off his share of the bombs in an isolated valley.Shashank on the other hand takes off in a plane with his share accompanied by Neha who turned out to be Jambwal’s employee in disguise but who realizes her faults at the end and decides to make amends by risking her life along with Shashank whom she has come to love. With no other alternative before him,Shashank decides to crash the plane in a lake, taking the willing Neha with him.

Ten reasons why I like this movie:

1.Sanjay Dutt is mindblowing!I personally feel that emotion is more his forte than action.Action can be done by any Tom,Dick and Harry but the anguish and grief writ large on his face when he has to make the tough(understatement of the year!) decision to let his younger brother sacrifice himself in the line of duty is not everybody’s cup of tea. That scene made me shed buckets and buckets of tears.

2.Abhishek Bachchan in yet another role tailor made for him.Suave, cheeky and oh soooo………………sexy! Was the role written with him in mind? But why did he have to die?Boo Hoo!

3.The bantering between Zayed and Abhishek. Its looks very natural and is therefore fun to watch.

4.Women empowerment!Shilpa Shetty in kick-ass mode is so amazing. Why the heck does she do senseless films like Garv,Khamosh etc when she has it in her to give meaningful performances in Phir Milenge,Dus etc.

5.Pankaj Kapur as Jambwal. From the slightly crazy Himmat to the scary Jambwal ,he essays both roles with equal ease.He gets slapped around so many times in this film,I really pity him!

6.The bhai-bhai scenes between Sanjay and Abhishek are cho chweet!A really hit jodi, one I hope to see more of.

7.The action is good.Even someone totally anti-action like me can enjoy watching these well-executed scenes.

8.Zayed Khan’s hatke style.I love this guy’s attitude. The way he talks to the bombs while he diffuses them is hilarious.

9.The climax is gripping. The 20 minutes countdown is accurate and everything takes place in real time.

10.The music is rocking! All the songs are worth a listen. My favorite is the awesome Dus Bahane, but to tell the truth I love the video more.Abhishek Bachchan has improved so much as a dancer. He is much more confident now.A close second is the song Saamne Aati Ho sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Sonu Nigam.

I don’t have ten reasons not to like this movie but here are some:

1.The Esha Deol track is totally unnecessary. She has nothing to do in the movie at all except simper at Abhishek Bachchan. And the chemistry between the two is totally nonexistent.

2.Similarly,all Dia Mirza’s role serves to do is provide reason for a wedding song in the movie. How does she expect to be taken as a serious actress if she consents to such mindless, bit roles?

3.I like movies with a big star cast.I mean, who doesn’t?The more eyecandy, the better. But the only problem is that it is not possible to flesh out each character in 2 and a half hours.Thankfully this movie manages to do that, atleast to some extent. But if there had been lesser stars, each character would have been better defined.

All in all,a great movie to watch with friends especially if you have a huge gang of female friends. You can all have a gala time oohing and aahing over the hunks in the film.
