A novel concept in an era when films are bombing left right and centre. Leaves the viewer to less risk because he would like atleast a few stories if not all. Dus Kahaniyan by White Feather Films is commendable because although Salaam e ishq had 6 stories they were all interconnected and the film lost its way. In Dus Kahaniyan there is no pretence, its altogether 10 short stories and most of them are good. There are some which have a lesson to give. Like the one with Nana Patekar called Gubbare where the young couple are told not to waste their time in trivial fights and get on with life.This one is well directed by Rohit Roy.
The Mandira Bedi , Arbaaz Khan starrer story is short but hard hitting with the urban milieu of fast life and infidelity. The end is good.
The Naseer, Shabana story of religious discord and the realization is based on the airport story of biscuits and is well adapted. Both these are directed by Sanjay Gupta.
The Pooranmasi directed by Meghna Gulzar is also a hard hitting version on how the daughter suffers the misdeeds of her mother and the system of natural justice.
The Neha Dhupia and Mahesh Manjrekar starrer sheds light on the thought process of a man when he hears of the wife's previous life and experiences. Here also the end is thought provoking.
The story of two neighbours played by manoj Bajpai and Diya Mirza is also todays story of the pressures of life and misjudgement in haste.
All said and done the concept is not boring. Some of the stories are too loud and vulgar but the rest are upto the mark. It proves that short is sweet. The viewer is saved of the pain of enduring a long movie with no end. The actors have shrt roles to essay so the impact is more and the boredom is less.. The bollywood style of lengthening the melodrama is done away and the challenge is taken to present a stry in 10 minutes. The whole series of 10 stories is completed in 2 hours. The roles essayed by Shabana,Nana, Naseer, Manoj and Amrita go on to prove why they are the stalwarts in acting.
