7directors,10stories,25actors and No Sense. Review on Dus Kahaniyaan

For the past two weeks I undertook the task of serving the mankind and doing good to the society and consequently the readers of MS too.On every Friday/Saturday I walk into a multiplex and spend my money and I risk losing my mind and intellect BUT  I still don't learn.So this week(after Aaja Nachle) I braved to watch Dus Kahaniyan.

The Score stands at 3-5-2.

3 - Good, watchable stories.

5 - Totally worthless, senseless, pointless stories.

2 - Ridiculously senseless stories that you can't help but laugh hysterically at'em.

So i'll give a quick note or two about each segment as far as I can remember:

Pehli Kahani(Matrimony):Mandira Bedi and Arbaaz khan are a rich and bored married couple with no kids.It's short jab at extra  martial affairs.I quite liked it because of the black humor touch at the end.

Doosri Kahani(High on the Highway):This one is a lousy segment starring Jimmy Shergil and Maushmi.Enough Said.

Teesri Kahani(Poorna.something):Amrita Singh and Minisha lamba star in this segment about a sexually starved wife and how ones action affects the life of other.This one doesn't generate any sympathy.Although the only high point of this segment is that minisha lamba is looking beautiful:)

Chauthi Kahani(Zahir[i think]):This segment belongs to the 3rd category of mine.Manoj Bajpai and Dia Mirza play perfect role models for AIDS(un)awareness campaign in this one.Bajpai is hopelessly miscast in this one(so is almost the entire cast).He gives pretty comical expressions and hams at places.

Paanchvi Kahani(Strangers in the Night):Another one that belongs to the 3rd category.In this one, Neha Dupia and Mahesh Manjrekar reveal their dirty secrets to each other annually(i am assuming that they are married).Dupia recalls an incident in which the for some strange reason she has a'hand fetish' and gets passionate in railway waiting room.By the time this one had ended me and my friend were in splits.(I aboslutely love unintentional comedy in movies)

Chati aur Saatvi Kahani(Lovedale and Sex on the Beach):These two are worst of the lot.

Reason One:Aftab and Dino star in'em respectively.

Reason Two: They are so devoid of logic and common sense, even a five year old can write better scripts than these.

Lovedale is about.i am not quite sure what is was about but my guess is that it was a cross between cliched runnaway bride scenes in hindi movies and cliched ghost stories.

Sex on the beach is actually about nothing.I don't know why it was made.By the end of these two segments we were spewing curses at the directors. Lakhia you better run and hide

Aathvi Kahani(Rice Plate): Rohit Roy finally brings some relief with his segment about a prejudiced Tam-Brahmin(Shabana Azmi) who has reservations about muslims.It's about her self reliazation about her hypocrictical nature when she encouters a parsi/muslim(i am not quite sure) played by Nasser.Azmi and Shah are top rate in this one.They bring life into the characters they play and sometimes say more than a thousand words with their expressions.

Nauvi Kahani(Gubbare):This emotional piece is another high point of the movie.Nana Patekar as the sweet and simple husband who buys balloons for his wife whenever she gets angry.He tells his story to Anita Hassanandani wife of Rohit Roy who have a tiff in a bus ride.(Anita is looking too good in this one).Nana Patekar is brilliant in this role, it's poigant story telling you something about life that you might already know but you choose to ignore.

And Finally .Drum Roll Dusvi Kahani(Rise and Fall):Final segment is just all about style.Story about two boys who come to mumbai and dream of ruling mumbai'bhiku mathre' isstyle.Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty are wasted in this segment.

Only the two segments by Sanjay Gupta and Rohit Roy deserve your attention and time, rest all the directors need to be punished for wasting movie reels and making such utterly pointless short stories namely Lakhia, Hansal Mehta, Dodhi, Gupta himself.

So to conclude this is badly packaged overall, marred by inept scripts and poor acting by majority of the cast leaving aside Nasser, Shabana, Nana, Rohit, Anita and few more.Most of them are in a one-scene role literally.Watch this if you have nothing better to do else catch up something better on DVD.I would suggest the latter option.
