One of the must do activity which I would strongly recommend you is desert safari. It is an experience of the life time. It is a slightly expensive trip but its value for money.

There are usually full day and half day desert safari trips arrannged by many tour operators. These are usually conducted in air conditioned 4 wheel drive jeeps mostly the Mitubishi pajeros or Land cruisers, most of these vehicles have a desert drive autoatic gear mode. There are many tour operators of desert safari. Just ask any tour operator ot travel service and they would arrange it for you. They are very expensive but their service is also very impressive. During Feb 2004, when I went they were charging AED 150 ( INR2000 appox) for half day desert safari. We had gone by a tour travel named Alpha tours.

Various tour operators carry people to different destinations within the desert where they arrange for ur compelte hospitality. We startde enroute to the road to Hatta, and about 20 vehicles of Alpha tours gathered together at the start of the desert, then air pressure was released slightly from all the 4 tyres af all the vehicles. And then the caravan started the ride through the desert. wow.. it simply is an exhilirating experience as the vehicles go up and down the sand dunes... it's more of like a roller coaster, but here the only grip is the sand below, as the experienced and well-rehearsed drivers (tour guides/habibis) ride the jeeps slant and full speed down the dunes some of which are about 300-500 m high and steep at almost perpendicular angles.

If any of the vehicles in the caravan gets stuck, all the vehicles stop to help the stuck one out and then it moves on again. During desert safari you would get a chance to see camels and take their photos. You can enjoy sunset in desert and take photos, and what a sunset it was, I mean all you could see aroung was just desert until the horizon and probably just there one could see the skyline of Dubai, lighting in splendour. Once we reached the tour spot, the arabian tea was served, then there was a delicious dinner in arabian tents.

The Kuppoos and the chicken was really tasty. Similarly after that we enjoyed belly dances by couple of beautiful girls as we all sat around in a big circle and then callled upon each one of us to dance with them. We did a bit of sand dune skating without much success.

Please note that desert safari is not offered in extreme temperatures of summer. So ideal time to enjoy desert safari is during winter season. Also keep in mind that it would be a bumpy ride because there is no straight road in desert.
