DUBAI is a Jewel in the Middle East ,situated in the United Arab Emirates. Eventhough Abu-Dhabi is the capital of the UAE,people all over the world recognize Dubai rather than Abu-dhabi. This is because of many reasons ,some of them you will be able to figure out by the time you finish reading this review.

Let me go into a little geography, United Arab Emirates consists of seven Emirates(states), they are Abu-Dhabi(capital), Dubai, Sharjah,Ras-al-khaimah,Fujairah,Ajman and Um-Al-Quwwain.Dubai is about 90 minutes drive from Abudhabi and Sharjah is beyond Dubai which takes about 20minutes by car.(here cars go at about 120 to 160 KmPH). The main income of Dubai is from non-oil sources compared to the other emirates. That implies that the stress is more on tourism,entertainment,shopping festivals ,education , technology,etc.

The best time to visit Dubai is from November to april. the weather is pleasant, gets very cold upto about 10 degrees in December to February. March to April is a major period of inflow of tourists as the Dubai Shopping Festival commences. Even in July to August Dubai Summer Surprises attract a big crowd especially from the other Arab states..

Dubai Airport is the biggest and the most beautiful Airport among all the others in the Middle East. One must go there and see it to appreciate the beauty, cleanliness and the efficiency there.

Dubai has a cosmopolitan population,consisting of Arabs,Indians,Pakistanis,Philippinos,Sri-lankans, Africans,Russians,Chinese,Koreans,Europeans,Americans, Australians etc..All kinds of food are available and is quite cheap. The languages spoken mostly are Urdu/Hindi, English,Malayalam,Arabic in that order.

Dubai is a shoppers paradise. People can find find expensive brandedproducts as well as cheap and bargain goods too. The shopping for expensive clothes and perfumes can be done in places like Wafi Mall, Bur-Juman Centre,City Centre etc... Cheap outlets like Carreffour(also located in the CITY CENTRE building), Lulu centre,Kwik save , Shop -N- Save and many other famous outlets can be found in Dubai. Electronic goods like Music sysytems, Home theatre systems, DVD,VCD, Cameras, CDs,Musical Instruments, perfumes,cosmetics ,clothes etc. are very cheap here compared to other countries. Try to buy products from the wholesale dealers or from reputed supermarkets ,even if happen to pay a little extra you get an original item. Dont buy them from small shops ,they may try to sell you a duplicate item for a lesser price!Dubai Duty Free is also a shoppers paradise ,located in the Dubai Int.Airport.

Dubai Shopping festival is really a month of fun and frolic and also some great shopping. Global village which is put up during this festival is one big crowd puller! It has Stalls from many countries all over the world,selling their goods and ,food stalls,cultural shows, folk dances;amusement rides, all imported from UK;games with good prizes,etc...

Dubai has a museum showing its cultural heritage,places like WOnderland, Wild Wadi which are separate amusement parks, Big hotels like Burj Al Arab(biggest hotel in the middle east, which has a bar which is underwater to which people can go in mini submarines. People are dropped at this hotel in Rolls-Roys or in a special chopper. Just to sight-see this hotel an entrance fee of Dhms. 200 has to be paid-about US $ 50/- Dubai hosts the richest horse race every year, now Dubai tennis trophy, golf are some of the international events held here. Dubai has a media city, an internet city which is so much developed and a port and Jebel Ali Free Zone which is a free port.

One has to observe some rules here ,like no eating, drinking or smoking on the roads or in public during the fasting hours in the month of Ramadan.Unlike some Middle eastern countries ,people can wear what clothes they want, within the limits of decency. Swimsuits are allowed on the beaches and around pool. No photoghraphing or locals especially women without their permission,they are more averse to being videoed, also Government and military installations .
