Dubai is the most developed village, I have ever seen. It is completely unbelievable how such a tiny span of land can take in so much.
If you are the “rough-it, keeps it real, bonding with nature” types then stop reading right now.
If you are looking for the Lonely Planet – National Museums, Burj-Al Arab wonder, Sheikh Zayed – the flashiest road, type of review – Stop again
This one is for the mindless tourist who believes in complete indulgence. There is absolutely no dirth for activities in this town in this genre.
-Clubbing, shopping, eateries, movies – everything.
Everything is man-made and everything is larger than life.
*Clubbing/Pubbing
*For all the alcoholics, this is the place to be! There is a club for everyone – Hip-Hop, Jazz, Desi, Rock, –(just spare the leather outfits and chainsaws!)
Mina Seyahi – Le Meridian, Irish Village, Buddha Bar, Rock Bottom, JimmyDix, Madinat Jumeria are some of my favorites.
Malls
Sisters o’mine, with acute pain I am sharing some of the places where you can get the best buys….
IBN Battuta, Mall of the Emirates, Jumeriah Village, Mercato are the expensive spots, don’t visit unless and until your boyfriend is buying!
Deihra City Centre, Al Ghurair, Reef Mall, Lamcy Plaza are just right!
I am going to stop here; I would do no justice to all the 50-60 malls of Dubai in a single paragraph.
Eateries
All cuisines known to man exist here(Ok, Smart-a**- no fried brains!)
Every street is peppered with classy restaurants.
Still, if you would like to get good value for money – There is Al Diyafah Street– which is groaning with restaurants back to back!
The Arabic cuisine is unique - Low fat and yum! Falafel, Khoubiz, Hummus, Moutabel, and Tabbouleh are some dishes that are especially for the conscious eater.
There are few other tourists’ attractions – Skiing and Desert Safari.
There is an artificial snow mountain inside the Mall of emirates, definitely not the Alps! Recommended for the mildly adventurous.
The Desert Safari is much modernized; don’t expect Indiana Jones combined with deadly snakes and falcons.
If you see Cacti and couple of desert flies, you are blessed!
However there is Belly dancing grins
…And a garishly gold soaked snake charmer with his doped, over-weight python.double grins
Recommended for the severely retarded.
The biggest charm of Dubai is its people – multi-cultural, multi-national and multi-lingual. They have learnt to co-exist with all their differences.
This is the easiest place to make friends.
