Visuals are deceptive goes the tagline of the latest super hit movie Drishyam and as we watch the movie we understand that it is indeed true.

When was the last time I got out watching a Malayalam movie completely satisfied. If I look back I can say that it might have in 2006 when I watched Classmates. After that I don't remember a movie that made me sit up and notice. Yes there were many hits but not a cult classic. After a very long time I would say Malayalam cinema showed the spark of its old glory. A movie where script was the king and every actor performing as per the demands of the script. Since this is a suspense thriller I would not like to delve into the specific storyline. But would like to highlight just the important points of the plot and the performance.

Story is that of Georgekutty who is only educated till 4th standard running a cable connection office for his living and is happily married to Rani with 2 young daughters. Georgekutty is addicted to movies and spends his spare time watching movies. Now a tragedy befalls Georgekutty's family and how Georgekutty manages to bring his family unscathed from that incident forms the rest of the story. The key highlight of the movie is how the director has played with the visuals. They tease and taunt us and make us go wide eyed when the truth behind those visuals is revealed. Mohanlal excels as Georgekutty and Meena compliments him very well as Rani.

Other notable performance is that of Asha Sharath as IPS Geetha Prabhakar. Every other actor has done his or her role well. The movie addresses a very relevant issue as far as the new generation is concerned. It is presented in a very matter of fact way. How misuse of technology is destroying many a young life is clearly captured.

All in all, would like to tell Drishyam is a movie that should not be missed as it might take another decade for a movie of that class to come out.
