Mohanlal-starrer 'Drishyam' is a movie for which Indians should be proud of.It is after a long time that Malayali cine buffs are getting such a great movie.

Honestly, i have to say that I entered the theatre for this movie with low expectations. But with just 10 minutes, i was sure that this film is a winner.

'Drishyam' tells the tale of cable operator Georgekutty and his family.Georgekutty is just a 5th class fail who never reads a newspaper. But he is an observant, intelligent, clever family man who is much interested in movies.Movies is such a passion for him.But his wife[Meena] always criticizes his ways. They have 2 children.Life goes good until Georgekutty's daughter is forced to kill an IPS officer's son who was trying to molest her.The family buries his body but soon police investigation begins. The IPS officer[Asha Sharath] and her husband[Siddique] is trying to investigate where their son was. With the help of a corrupt police officer[Kalabhavan Shajon], they find that Georgekutty's family may be the culprits for the missing. But they do not havre enough proofs. The rest of the story focuses on Georgekutty's desperate attempt to save his family by destroying all proofs.

Instead of a who-done it thriller, 'Drishyam' is a different film in which the escape of culprits from their crime is discussed. We have seen thrillers like'Rashomon' and'Yavanika' where the storytelling was entirely different from the other thrillers.'Drishyam' is a film that comes to such category. Here, the viewers really do not know who is the protagonist or the antagonist. All the important character are of both categories at the same time.Georgekutty knows that he has committed the crime but is desperate to save his family. The IPS officer is arrogant and cruel towards Georgekutty but her heart of an ailing mother is what that makes her do it.Even the viewers are confused to stick with whom. This is the real magic of'Drishyam'.

Each and every character has a role to play. And the cast have portrayed them well. After a long time, viewers are witnessing Mohanlal convert back to his'Family man' avatar through 'Drishyam'.Mohanlal has done a commendable job in portraying Georgekutty. No other actor can portray Georgekutty than Mohanlal.Meena has done a good job but could be better. The two child artistes have done their job quite well. It's after a long time that viewers are seeing child artists playing important characters in thrillers. But the real surprise packages were Asha Sharath and Kalabhavan Shajon.Asha Sharath's killer looks and sharp dialogues is a delight to watch.Asha has done a career-best job in portraying a serious role. Shajon who had till now done many comic roles have transformed well to a cruel constable. Siddique also had done his job very well. The supporting cast has also done their job well.

Music is nice but it seems to be unnecessary for the film at times. The song'Maarivill' is soothing. The background score is also good.

Coming to technical facts, special mention to the Cinematography wielded by Sujith Vasudev.Sujith has guaranteed the viewers to sit firmly into their seats by his beautiful cinematography.Editing is sharp and brisk. The locations of the film is eye-catching.

The story of'Drishyam' is different by all means. And the tight screenplay does justice to the story. But, it is the Direction that counts.Director Jeethu Joseph had actually started his film career with a thriller which was proved to be a mishmash. Then, focusing on Rom-coms, Jeethu had returned with a bang with an entertaining thriller'Memories' in 2013.'Drishyam' is the best picture he had done till date. The 1st half of the film mainly focuses on establishing the main characters. The viewers may feel confuse if it was really a thriller. But this is where'Drishyam' deceives us.Just after the intermission, the director masterfully transforms the family drama into an engaging thriller. The film doesn't bore the viewers even for one second.Unlike other thrillers, the film uses a village backdrop to narrate the story. This experiment may have proved disastrous even with a single mistake. But Jeethu Joseph wisely uses the natural surroundings by understanding its limitations.Dialogues are nice but some of them keeps on repeating in the 1st half  which may irritate the viewers.Humour is good. There is a lot of twists and turns in the film. The climax is one of the best of film history.Even after leaving leaving the theatre, this film will continue to stay in your mind for a long, long time.

So rush out to the theatres as soon as possible to watch this Outstanding movie.
