Warning!

These are only my thoughts however cynical they appear to be.

Here's wishing everyone a very happy new year! After having a nice family blast on the 31st, we decided to catch up with some friends in a very very happening(as they all claim) pub in the heart of Hyderabad. I'm not frequent enough to that place to know all the managers and waiters but I used to hang around there during the'rock nights'. In all the times that I did go there, I failed to notice a small announcement at the side of the entrance mentioning the dress code.'Shorts not allowed after 7 PM'. Hey now let me get this straight. During the day, we can go in shorts because. hmmm maybe there's no crowd there.? Or is it because we are werewolves. that are nice and decent during the day and turn for the worse as the sun sets? But how does me wearing pants stop me from letting out Hyde eh? Maybe I should ask the people who set these rules. What were they thinking? The pub culture is western. The dress code of wearing denims is western. then why not a very cool pair of Cargos? This is a very debatable topic and if you see the management side, they will come up with a ton of reasons for having a dress code.

Well if the ladies can show off their legs, then why cant I?:) And maybe you can have a dress code if you're having some kind of theme evenings. That’s understandable but on a causal 1st evening, I'm not sure I agree to it.

Ohh and that’s not all, there another rule that states that Floaters are not allowed in some places. Now that’s the million dollar question if you ask me. Dude, do you even know how much a Reebok or a Nike floater would cost? Ok, so the cost of your footwear does not matter I agree coz rules are rules even if you are in Hyderabad or Toronto:)

And to add to this, our very Indian upbringing of treating guests as gods lets the same doorman let in a visitor from a foreign land even though he might be in shorts and floaters. I have not seen that myself but I guess we still do treat guests as gods or have we also changed our values to meet the western world?

Anyways after putting up a brave fight to try and gain entry and losing the battle eventually, I went home quietly and put on a pair of denims and sipped my beer with some Floyd in the background to soothe my nerves. After all, dress code begins at home right? Hey. or was that charity?
