Dressing Up For an Interview

What should you wear for an interview is a very tricky question.

It depends on

1. What kind of job you are looking out for?

and

  1. What the organization is like? And most importantly what you feel comfortable wearing.

If you are looking out to be boxer at a local pub, you sure wouldn't wanna turn up in 3 piece suit, right? Similarly for high profile jobs you cant afford to wear jeans and a T-shirt.

The safest option is a mix of casual and formal.

For guys

Guys look cool in their cotton tailored pants (dark colors like navy blue or khakis also look cool) with a wrinkle free full sleeve shirt. You can carry a tie in the pocket and depending on the company and what other candidates are wearing either wear it or leave it.

If its a Multinational, without any second thought you can dress up in formals. Let you hair be gelled and set well in place. Your shoes polished and socks fresh and not smelly as usual.

Shoddy jeans and T-shirt is a big NO, no matter what kind of job you are applying for.

For Girls

For girls (Indian) nothing beats the charm of a well tailored starched crispy Salwar kameez/Churidar. Wear minimal jewelry. Its an interview and not a wedding party. Avoid long earrings and trinkets. Bangles also should be avoided as they might distract the interviewer.

Don't try saris if you are not comfortable with it. Before you reach the destination the sari will be half-unwrapped gracing the ground deceiving your body. Believe me! I remember . . . . for get it!!!:))

Girls should never show up in dress more than an inch above the knees (without stocking) Its better to avoid dresses with deep neck/nape lines and skin tight. Not atleast when going for an interview. Once you join you can wear all that you feel like but create a sophisticated impression during an interview and wear something which suits you and not ''reveals you''.

Get a job with other attributes like educational qualifications and experience and I am sure the job will last longer.

The best judges for your clothing will be your best friends. They can show you which colors and which outfit will bring out the best in you.

What ever you wear, don’t forget to wear a graceful smile along!!!
