Author - Julianna Smith

Dream Catcher is about Adam, a man who can see peoples dreams, and feel them, by touching their pillows. It is something he has had all his life, and tries as much as possible to avoid doing. Peoples dreams are often very disturbing, and, through experiencing their dreams, Adam learns more than he would ever want to know about the way people really are. He carries his own pillow every time he goes out, but, when travelling across the country with his girlfriend, it goes missing and he is forced to stay in a hotel and use the hotels pillows. He finds himself in 'contact' with Laura, a girl who has been kidnapped. He can feel all she feels. The feeling is so strong that he fears the bond between them extends beyond the pillow, and he is driven to save her so that he can break the link. While searching for her, he finds he must delve into her kidnappers mind to find out where he has taken her. Through the pillows, he discovers what kind of mind would be driven to torture Laura.

Dream Catcher is a very well written book - it provides a very interesting look into the human mind - would you REALLY want to know someone so well that you could see what their dreams were? What would you feel if they dreamed about you?

The only problem I have with Dream Catcher is that it was rather short. There seemed to be places where a lot of things could be said or done, or explained in more depth, but they weren't. This isn't really a bad thing, though. The closest parallel that I can think of is the X Files and Star Trek books. Think of the regular novels they made, and compare them to the book versions of some of the episodes. Dream Catcher feels more like the books of the episodes. I actually think that Dream Catcher would make a great TV series - it has that feel - instead of getting tied up with lengthly descriptions, things just 'happen' a lot in it.

Sometimes, when reading a book that doesn't hold your attention, you want to skip over the descriptions, explanations, and other boring bits - scanning for a change of pace where you can jump back in. With Dream Catcher, you never get a chance to get bored, things move so quickly! If you want a very quick read that holds your attention and has plenty of thrills, then this is for you. Its the first in a series of books, and if the rest are of this quality then I can't wait to read them! ISBN: 0738832561

P.S I thought I would try and adventure into the other categories more so if my movie enjoying friends are dissapointed you may have to wait a while for more.
