Those days are gone when people use to place doctors next to god, and doctors also use to take patient's pain on highest priority. From my bitter experience I just learned that some doctors have opted this holy profession just to make money.
We went to Dr Smita Shah (Shreyas Clinic) with lots of hope since my wife was 6 weeks pregnant. Dr's sugar coated talk alarmed me initially but don't know some how I ignored it. She kept praising her-self and advertising her new hospital with 24hr facility (in which I was not interested). Later she did pregnancy test with self-pregnancy-test kit (which we had already done before visiting her) and referred us to Dr Butala's lab for multiple tests. At reception we were asked to pay Rs 600, receptionist explained me that 200 for consultation and 400 for test. I was shocked since I knew that test kit costs only Rs 50 and she was charging 8 times the price.
We went to Dr Butala lab, his lab was just a rented 2 BHK flat converted into lab. I figured out that he just takes samples and send it to another lab. I was just wondering why the hell Dr Smita Shah didn't refer us directly to the big lab? Later I managed to figure out from a low level staff that there is tie-up between Dr Smita Shah and Dr Butala for about 50% commission for each patient. I was aware of commission thing but I was shocked to learn the actual percentage.
Next day we went to Dr Butala for results, the results were not arrived from other lab so we waited for hours there. When results came it was quite late to visit doctor Smita Shah, hence I request Dr Butala to let me know if there is any issue/concern, but he said that they don't talk to patient about their reports and we should visit our doctor. Dr Butala is MD and I didn't expect this answer from him.
Next day when we visited Smita Shah she told me that the report is normal, I was just wondering if things were normal why didn't Dr Butala told us last evening, at-least we would have slept in peace last night. I asked Dr Smita Shash some of my concern about report and the symptoms, and I found her answers were self contradicting. Not very satisfied by her explanation when we came out we were asked to pay 600 as fees, I asked for explanation but the receptionist didn't have any. I went to doctor expecting a fees mistake, she told me that generally she spends 5 min for each patient but since our discussion went longer for about 15 min she has charged accordingly. This was really a limit for me, I payed the money but quit Dr Smita Shah forever.
Doctors like Dr Smita Shah and Dr Butala don't have any concern with patient's problem, they have taken this profession just for 3 reasons, to make money, to make money and just to make money.Those days are gone when we use to blindly faith on doctors and never question them. Today people need to be very cautious and alert.
These are some suggestion which people might find useful.
1) Always cross-check and take second opinion from some other independent doctor if things are serious.
2) Do some search on Internet about your problem and symptoms. This will help you to observe if your doctor is moving in right direction.
3) Always google information about the prescribed drugs and side effects, there are many medicine which are banned in other countries but freely prescribed in India.
4) Whenever you come across such doctors raise an alarm, your feed back will help many people to save themselves from such traps.
Keep your family safe from greedy and money-hunger doctors like Smita Shah and Butala because money may not be your concern, but the their attitude is!
